Always a good time to look around.
When doing so, compare limits (if any) on key things like sewer backup and/or overland water.

Price is not the only thing to worry about these days.

I would also add, roof depreciation. Many policies not have a depreciation table.

Is this a good or a bad thing? My policy has one, but they also think my roof is 26 years old, when in fact it was redone 5 1/2 years ago (not on a claim).

I think it is a bad thing.

You should really update your insurer. Not only could it significantly reduce your rates (depending on insurer) but could reduce the hassle of a roof claim. No way they would look at a newish roof and treat it like it was 26 yrs old but still, why take a chance?

Rates for our house went up this year and also last year. Over 50% increase over two years so we ended up changing some things (deductable etc.) to get that down as much as possible.

Anybody on Meloche (TD Insurance) should price shop their insurance with a few different people. I did and found Cooperators out of Ontario provided the best price for auto and house insurance. By a big margin, and I was with TD for 17 years prior.

How did you work with Co-operators out of ontario? I called some of their local reps and the quotes I was getting were astronomical.

As a broker, the cost of premiums has so many different variables in play. Years insured, accidents, tickets etc. Someone who has been driving for 15 years and only 1 year of insurance may have high premiums based on the years continuously insured. It is always best to ask an insurance specialist to explain it to you. Not understanding insurance is very common.
