Gotta love CP.

Hamilton may not be as great as a lot of people hoped. He has some serious holes in his game.

HATER!!!

Boston wouldn't trade one first and two seconds for Hamilton at this point. Too risky for a team that will likely miss the playoffs. Besides, they can't afford him under the cap.

I think you're looking at a 1st, a depth player (cap dump) and a decent prospect for him at this point.

Hamilton has been fine this season. The top six we played last night Gio-Brodie Jokipakka-Hamilton Kulak-Engelland, and you could IMO still swap Wideman/Engelland for a bit of offense once Kulak settles in, was fine.

The problem is entirely the forwards right now.

And while all of you are at it, reread most of the other posts in this thread and the PGT thread from last night as well.

In fact.... reread every PGT since at least 2004 when the Flames have had a bad game.

I have read many of them.

I'll wait.

Are you sure you've read all of them or just the ones between the Oilers and the Flames? You have about 55 posts total in 12 years and the majority mention the Oilers in some capacity. You are either a very confused Flames fan or an Oilers fan pretending to be a Flames fan. Do you live in Calgary?

Dougie was outstanding in the second game against the Oilers and has been good in the other two. If we're going to pick a Goat, let's pick someone who deserves to be the Goat.

Hamilton also had a nice one-timer last night that could have easily been a goal if the puck was a couple inches higher. Hockey is a game of inches. If he scores, this thread doesn't exist.

PMM - I respect your hockey views so what are you seeing with Dougie? I am not calling him the goat but he as been very average so far IMO. This team, the way it is structured and loaded up with salary on the back end, needs him to be better than this I believe.

Good. You took my advice!

The first step towards solving your problem. Although your posting about it here really doesn't help you.

Gulutzan has deployed Hamilton 61% of the time in the offensive zone, which is ALOT. But when deployed there, he's been keeping the puck in the zone and getting a ton of shots directed towards the net (62% Corsi). He's doing the right things out there. When he finds himself in his own, he's done a good job of pushing it back up the ice. He and Joki were superb in the second game of the season. He wasn't on the ice for any of the goals against in that game.

In the other two games, his underlying numbers have shown him to be good. Not great, but good. He has taken some dumb penalties, for sure. He seems to be walking that fine line between aggressive play and taking penalties, and right now he's usually been on the wrong side of it. That's been his biggest knock so far. I just don't see where much of the criticism is coming from.

But go ahead and make up whatever supports your narrative.
we just went through the Gaudreau signing fiasco where nobody on CP had any kind of idea what the real negotiations were like.

Hamilton was in the same boat as Trouba is in this year. Trouba might be considered a better player as he was selected over Hamilton for the World cup team.

The Flames rescued Hamilton and Boston from a bad situation. If they thought he was a franchise level d-man they could have played hard ball and he would still be a Bruin.

I am pretty sure the the Jets have said they have offered Trouba a fair contract. That does not mean they have offered min 5.8x6 like Hamilton actually got from the Flames.

Boston said they offered Hamilton a fair contract .... nobody outside of the participants in the negotiations know what offers where actually made for Hamilton by Boston.

The threat of offer sheets??? Very limited time available for that as the 2015 draft was almost there and no way would/should a borderline playoff team like the Flames give up a potential chance at Matthews or Laine or even Tkachuck on a ELC for Hamilton on a 5.8x6.

Hamilton is still young, but I'd like to see some rapid development or he will be a trade flop.

More (or any) aggression would be a plus. His passes are above average. His shots are hit and miss as many of them are being blocked. Speed is below average.

At present, Hamilton would be on my PP and a 5th or 6th defense man.

I don't know, about the only player that deserves to be singled out 3 games into this season is Wideman, the regression is painfully obvious with him.

Everyone else is still navigating the rust and systems change. And Persoanlly, Dougie is playing a different game from last year. He's shown some serious edge in his play, checking hard, like impressively hard, roughing up the opposition during play and just playing a game akin to Rasmus Ristolainen.

We know he can be a producing offensive D man, but all the stuff that was said about him being soft in Boston and the desire for him to use his size more in CGY looks to be a thing of the past.

This thread is a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I like what Dougie has been doing so far. Actually, I've been really impressed with his change in play. The focus on being tougher is going to help him be a top pairing player for years down the road.

I'm seeing this same thing.
Where are the 'soft' comments coming from? Are people just regurgitating arguments from seasons past out of frustration?
Dougie Hamilton has played these 3 games with an edge, and if you can't see that, I question how open-minded some of us fans are when we sit down to watch a game. Sure, he hasn't looked like Chris Pronger out there, but he never will... Nobody ever will, ever again in this league.

When we got Dougie in the trade, Bruins fans were warning us about him being soft. Last year, it was a common thing to read in GT's that folks wanted to see Dougie use his size more.
