That's not a logical counterpoint as it doesn't actually assess the argument. Ragging on the best player on the line so far and saying he shouldn't be there simply does not make sense. How about we draw radical conclusions when he's performing worse than his linemates.

With a skilled RW a clear need, surely some more offense minded PTOs could have been found than wasting time with Higgins and Korpikoski...?

Versteeg is a good shootout card. Guarantee a lot would be complaining if we lost and one of Gaudreau/Monahan/Bennett didn't shoot. So, who would have take the shots?

Monahan 3GP 1G-0A-1PTS -3
Gaudreau 3GP 0G-1A-1PTS -4
We look outmatched against the Oilers and Canucks. I can't wait until we play contenders. <sigh> It's only three games, right?

I agree we are missing a 1st line right wing. But 3 years ago this was a burnt to ground rebuild with maybe 1 legit top 6 forward on the roster. As it sits today there are at least 4, and they are doing it the right way. Did you really think it be that easy and quick to fill out the top 6 on a complete fresh start rebuild?
|
Porier has been a huge disappointment and only Klimchuk seems to be close. Compare that to our d men prospects on the farm and i'm willing to bet a few of them make this team before any our wingers.

Versteeg is a terrible shootout card. He hasn't scored in five years.

Ownership isn't about to pay 2 guys not to coach this team. GG will get at least this year to install his system. Quit beating the dead horse.

3 years is a decent amount of time. Don't mistake me, if you read some of my other posts I do think this rebuild could take a long time and may not even work. But what disturbs me the most is not merely the fact that we have no 1st line RW right now (which again is not easy), but that we neglected that position in the rebuild and have no real prospects there either.

Has he done anything to make Gaudreau and Monahan better?
Just because he might be playing well doesn't automaticly make him a fit for the top line.

Monahan was a questionable shootout choice too...he is clearly not 100%.
Brouwer scored a beauty on the breakaway, should have given him a shot.

Is that the standard for analysis now? If you don't make your terrible teammates better you shouldn't be on the line?

Yep, I didn't like the firing and wasn't impressed with the replacement but hoped for the best. It's looking like my initial thoughts were right. He looks way over his head.

For a management team that prides themselves on preparation and hard work, I certainly hope they were aware of this.

Johnson played a spectacular game. The best goaltending performance in a while from a Flames' goalie. Deer Ridge represent!
Overall I thought it was a decent game. The goal the Swede line scored to tie it up was a pretty sick passing play. The Sedins are easily the best cyclers in the NHL and it showed tonight.
Gaudreau had his chances, but chalk it up to bad luck tonight.
It sucks losing to both Edmonton and Vancouver.

You're right. Thought someone said he was good.
The top 3 supposed offensive stars were sent out and they all failed. Can't blame the coach for that.
I didn't like him trying to change everything though. Last year, starting with 2 D and C and then getting Johnny out there on the first change worked in the SO. It wasn't broken, so keep using it. Instead, he went 2 forward and a D and they didn't create a single opportunity in the OT.
