New playing system requires too mush phisical effort. Too much skating work and pressure. Team does not have this now. That is why we stopped after first. And this high pressure brigns a lot of breakawats. Defence needs more time to learn how to play it.
I am much more dissapointed that there in no brain in attack. Zero combinations. Bad passing. Glen told this summer about puch posession. But now we see stupid run and gun.
May be we just need time. Or Glen is a wrong system person for our guys.

The only defenseman that has played competently through the two games is Engelland. Everyone else, besides Kevin, has been either bad, horrific, or simply not NHL caliber.

I really think Gulutzen or whatever the coach's name is had got his lines wrong. Versteeg is frickin too small to be on the first line and he's basically invisible. Move Brouwer up. Move Backlund, Frolik, and Ferland/Chiasson into second line. 3rd line - Bennett, Tkachuk, Ferland/Bouma.
I really can't stand Stajan for a ll the years he's been with the Flames. Just can't stand watching the replay of a little guy like Eberle is left standing and scoring in front of the Flames net rather than get run over a bigger player like Stajan. The guy is frickin soft!.
Wideman - it'll be a blessing if he starts to use his frickin wicked shot in his contract year so that he can look half decent as a trade bait later on. If he's so dang slow on the ice, at least use that shot to hurt someone on the other team with that blast. Do something!
Elliot - wow, he's not very fast lateral goalie. I'd be worried if he turns out to be another Hiller - go down on every shot, staying back in the crease area, and moves slow from post to post. At least he went out to challenge on one of the partial breakaway. I like to see what Chad Johnson can do in net. See if the backup can do his job. This way, if it's gonna end up like last season, it'll hopefully get rectified sooner than wait until next summer to fix the D and the goalie situations.

Usually I wait two weeks to panic. There is now a week and a half left.

Yeah, making the playoffs was the worst.
Especially losing a round with key players having broken ribs and hands
Edit: there may be merit in the balance between systems guy and motivator

The coaching was terrible. On one of the powerplays they had our bottom 4-6 against a mid 2 to first with Connor out there. I knew it wouldn't go well and it didn't.
Wideman made 4-6 terrible plays tonight. But I think the coach was deplorable in his decision making ability and bad decisions continued on. Bench Wideman after a few bad ones.
Elliot wasn't as bad as game 1. Except for when he stick handled the puck through his own pads and had to make the save on himself.
Officiating was somewhat lopsided with Eberle being the skate dive winner of the night.
Back to coaching, the improved Powerplay was the worst I have every seen. The Flames as a team bobbled, did not have control and had consistency of purpose, leading to one of the worst games I've seen in a long time. As witnessed with only 5 shots on goal for 30 minutes of hockey!!
Othello, the flames had everything going for them until they didn't. We didn't look like an NHL team out there tonight.

To be honest, the three things that are bugging me the most:
1. Invisible Johnny. Might be getting magnified by the fact that the other guys star player was a difference maker, but really frustrating he's been a complete non factor. Regardless of results, in these games, McDavid us just a complete other level to Gaudreau and I'm ok with that. But Gaudreau needs to be way way better then he has been.
2. Shaky Elliott. Very very disappointing. 2 games in and I'm already going hoping Johnson will be battling him out of our net.
3. Goo and Brodie looked horrid. Gio esoecially. If this is what we can expect from Gio, we are going to be regretting that extension much sooner than even the most sinical would have imagined.

Re invisible Johnny
Gaudreau, motivated to show he belongs on the WCH stage, has been truly invisible against our most hated rival, while McDavid slumbered through those meaningless games in prep for torching us when it really counts. I expect this is coincidence and a product of missing camp. I hope it is anyway.
Gaudreau easily the biggest disappointment in this tire fire start.

Pretty much every time I saw a big d-man wearing a twenty-number doing something good and I gave credit to Hamilton it turned out to be Engelland.

Like Giordano said, they played well in the 1st and then started to chase after that. This is fixable. Hopefully tonight.

Maybe I'm being too harsh but I would give the coach three more games to pull this team together. If he can't do it he should be fired.

I realize losing 2 in a row to Edmonton feels ####ty but they lost something like 18 of 20 to us in the recent past here. Let's not freak out - tones of new faces, 3 new coaches, Johnny/Mony absent for all of the pre-season.. It's gonna take a few games to get out bearings here. That first period was an example of how we can play, just need to be consistent, execute, and launch #6 and #8 into that massive ball of fire in the sky.

Yeah that's not going to happen and nor should it. You don't hire a guy and fire him on the basis of a slow start in his first season. Treliving hired him so he's going to get as much rope as possible and I expect even if this team finishes bottom 5 he would be brought back.

Welp, pretty much the worst case scenario to start the season. Two losses against a bad team that is only mediocre due to McDavid.
Huge concerns about the coaching. How do you have your star players come out so flat to start the season? JG, Monahan, Hamilton etc. all look if not disinterested, completely off. Is the system really that hard that even these guys can't make it work? I don't buy it. The team looks very dysfunctional.
