Will make it interesting if both he and Bautista return, because I don't think anybody wants to see Bautista back in RF next year. I'd like him back as a DH on his QO. A healthy Joey Bats would be great as a DH IMO, but then Edwin needs to be at 1B
I would say there's next to no chance Bautista is back unless he's willing to accept a short term deal and consider playing 1st base. I doubt he's willing to do either.

What's his QO going to be?

About $17 million for one year?

You don't think he takes that offer?

If you're the jays, you go after Edwin with everything you've got. Bautista is not worth the investment he will likely still be going for imo.

Yep, you go all in on Edwin, hopefully get him and then offer Bautista his QA and say "We'd love to have you at this, and if not we thank you for everything you've done for this organization".

Best case scenario you snag Edwin and then Bautista decides he'll use next season to leverage one last big contract.

More likely though Bautista realizes he's old enough to possibly fall off a cliff next season and takes a decent length contract somewhere this off season.

Yup, it's a little over 17M I think.

Bautista will not take less than 3 years on a contract of 20M per. Someone will probably be stupid enough to give him it to him as well. I bet he ends up in the National League on someone like the Diamondbacks.

I don't think Jose's ego will allow him not to be an every day right fielder.

Even moreso than a guy like Bourque or Iggy chasing a cup - it is the journeyman chasing that dream that really resonates with me.

Yeah, it's weird how I really route for the journeyman, but I see guys like Bourque and Iggy chasing a cup as kind of tainting their legacy.

Bauer apparently cut the outside of his pinky while repairing his drone. Seriously. He'll get a couple extra days to heal and will start the first game in Toronto, with Josh Tomlin moving up to start Game 2 in Cleveland. Corey Kluber is opposing Marco Estrada in Game 1 on Friday.

I doubt anyone is offering Bautista two years, much less three. His game has gone downhill a bit, which is understandable given his age. I could see him taking the 17m.

I could have seen him taking the 17M before the playoff started, but he's delivered all postseason for the Jays. There's no way he's not going to get a multi-year deal now with a price tag of about 20M per year (minimum 3 years).

I can't see Boston or New York going after him, but I can see teams like the Mets going after him to replace Cespedes, or some big budget teams that our flandering like the Diamondbacks, Angels, White Sox, and Mariners who have tons of tv revenue to continue to chase their dreams of mediocrity.

I think a lot of it will depend on whether or not the Jays win it all this year and how much he wants to stay in TO. Probably also depends on what teams (if any) offer him a multi year deal.

Like in TAO's example, if the Jays don't win it this year I can't see him taking a 3 year deal in Arizona of all places with no chance to win. I think the guy has spent his whole career on losing teams. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him take the Jays QO just to stay on a team with a pretty good chance to make it back to the post seasons again next year. This is probably a lot of fun for him.

The whole rotation is in place next year, and could be better next year than it was this year with a rejuvenated Liriano replacing Dickey and Stroman/Sanchez arguably improving due to age and experience. That's pretty solid considering they were the best rotation in all of baseball this year and they have a decent chance to be even better. If the Jays can get EE to commit, and shore up the bullpen they have a legit shot at post season baseball again and Jose can take a one year deal in hopes of going for it all again with a winning team while at the same time possibly rebuilding his value back up a bit as a DH/1B/RF platoon type guy.

Thanks, forgot I wrote that this morning. I stand by it, but it's definitely got a bit of an "I'm tired and angry on the morning train to work" vibe to it haha. Yeah I get it, I guess. No other sport I follow would do that, but it's baseball and weekday afternoon games are part of its culture. It is what it is

This is going to be a fun battle, I hope. I'm a little worried about Estrada today, though, on extra rest. I hope he's got it.

Hopefully they keep hitting. They'll be fine if they keep hitting.

Can't imagine getting cut by a drone. I have one and those propellers are moving super fast, like cut your entire finger off fast. He got very lucky if he can still pitch a few days after.
