Need to read the article, it can't really be summed up in a paragraph.
Maybe they played him to prove it was a legit signing?

They played him for expansion reasons. Treliving said they are making signings with the expansion in mind. Players can be exposed if they have 40 games over the previous two seasons I think. If he's serviceable play him his minimum to be exposed, keep Jirki and Dougie.

But he's only signed to one year

You have to expose players signed for the 2017/2018 season though.

Almost seems like GG has no choice but then to play him and why any coach would agree to that is a little rectal discomfort ing.

81 games to go but we need points early

Test if he's serviceable then re-sign him for one year soon. Pretty much verbatim Treliving said they are making signings based on the expansion. Grossman, Pribyl, Versteeg are probably all being tested so we can re-sign them for one more year. Don't know who else he could be referring to.

Nakladal and Grossman are not comparable. At all.

The Flames wanted a big, physical LEFT shooting Dman.

The reason Nakladal isn't here is NOT because they signed Grossman.

It's because they had three right shooting NHL Dmen already under contract in Hamilton, Wideman and Engelland.

Not to mention Brodie plays on the right side a lot too.

Nakladal wasn't coming back unless they traded Engelland or Wideman.
I thought Right-handed shooting D-Men were in high demand? The Flames, for the longest time, wanted right handed shots on the point and couldn't find anyone. We currently have Wideman, who has a good shot, but doesn't use it. Nakladal, from last season, had a pretty good shot from the point and he's a fairly good sized D-man who can hit and pass out of the zone. I'm extremely PO'd about having Nakladal not being signed as a Flames. It's a WTF moment when it's only $25G difference, but the skill level is the main difference.

I'd rather see if Engelland accepts a small extension. And/or Jokipakka
