Yes they want to diversify the O&G industry and the Alberta economy in general by raising corporate taxes, the minimum wage, and introducing a whole host of new regulations.

These idiots have no clue what they are doing.

Slash the corporate tax and personal income tax to 0%. That will bring in all kinds of new industries.

Politics is a business. Your voter base are your shareholders.

Just like corporations are there to make a profit, political parties are in business to win elections.

If the PC/WRP guys can't figure this out, they should get out of politics.

I have steam coming out of my ears.
What are you saying here? I don't understand what you mean (honestly).

I don't know anything about this Janssen person, but the parts of the article that you quoted I agree with. I don't want to see the PCs and WR shack up and abandon principles in order to win. I want them to show that they understand that they can be 'Progressive Conservatives'.

The incentive just to 'win and get in' may be the worst part of politics. I want leaders who will campaign on what they are going to do, and do so if they win. I don't want leaders who will do anything to win the election, and then have no accountability to what they actually ran on.

Mr. de Bever does not count? Also, the mandate of the Committee is to consult industry stakeholders.

Maybe I'm missing a connection, but how does de Bever relate to O&G?

He is Chair of the Board of Directors for Oak Point Energy, an energy services company. Not directly related to the energy industry (though no doubt indirectly related), he was formerly the President and CEO of AIMCO. He has a very impressive resume.

If that were true he'd know better than to get anywhere near this assembly of clowns.

Huh, I didn't realize he wasn't with AIMCO anymore.

I had a pretty awesome conversation with him a couple years ago. He seems like a good man.

That was a bit tongue-in-cheek, I know it doesnt come across well on the internet, so I apologize for lack of clarity.

If you are not in politics to win you should get out.

Like I said, it's a business and it's all about winning. Kind of like the Flames.

And if they stand up for their principles (what ever they may be) and look at the big picture, we are looking at Notley again in 2019.

On a side note, are there ANY Reform Party conservatives left?

Or is it just me, Jason Kenney, Harper, Manning, and a bunch of rural people?

She started as a communications intern with Ron Ghitter.

She's a centrist alternative to the simplistic ideologues on both the left and right. Maybe Alberta has become so polarized that there is no centre anymore. I'd like to think that's not the case.
You're right she did briefly start with him with Redford then went into media for 25 years. She returned to politics under Redford's communications team.
Anyway you slice it , she's a 100% Redford lackey . If the PC's put her as the leader it shows me they have learned absolutely nothing from the last election and their entitlement issues.

I don't see why the unite the right has to succeed. If either party made themselves electable, it would make the other one irrelevant. They don't seam to want to play together, so why force it? The Conservatives were electable before with Wildrose around, it in no way guarantees an NDP win in 2019 if there are 2 right of centre parties.

So basically any PC who worked in the Redford administration is a lackey who had entitlement issues and must be expunged from the party?

Yeah, it's gonna take you guys at least another election or two to unite the right. These things don't happen when you draw lines in the sand and demand the other guy clean house.

The Alberta PCs didn't stay in power for 50 years because Albertans didn't change. They stayed in power for 50 years because the party continued to change along with the voters of the province. The last couple PC governments were not right-wing parties. They were centrist, because in the 21st century most Albertans are centrist.

I doubt we'll see a unit the right.

If we con't we'll see a minority government with the PC's winning. Wildrose holding the middle and the NDP as a rump party with single digit seats the way things are going.

With the latest polls showing the NDP in distant third and the carbon tax already at about 30% popularity, once they implement it they will probably never be able to recover.

Exactly.

The last 10 or so years of "conservative" governments were anything but. Progressive Conservatism in Alberta died the day Ralph Klein left office.

Sandra Jansen is about as conservative as Justin Trudeau...a liberal in blue clothing and nothing more.

Sandra Jansen is far from just any PC in the Redford administration they are extremely close as a matter of fact Jansen was on board with Redford when they were using the government planes for family errr business trips.
I couldn't stand Redford as premier and neither could the majority of Albertans, it is why she had to step down. The fact that anyone would think its a good idea to go back to a similar type of leader as the most unpopular Alberta PC leader of all-time blows my mind.

I don't disagree that it could take a while for the parties unite if they do at all however I want a leader who is open to discussing it, Jansen clearly is not open to that.

I feel that the Wildrose and PC's overlap voters who represent the majority of Albertans , there are fringe groups in both parties further right in the Wildrose and further left in the PC's. If you were able to cut the edges of each party and have the middle group get together then I think that group would have the most in common with the average Albertan.
