Did people actually think Elliott wouldn't start?

This isn't Ramo/Hiller anymore. Elliott is the clear cut #1

He also isn't tired or as bad of a goalie as he showed last night. I would say he starts for the foreseeable future.

Well, we can either cross that bridge when we come to it, or bitch about the reaction to an event that hasn't even happened yet. I see you've made your choice.

No surprise the pairings have been adjusted and Grossmann is likely in the press box. I didn't agree with having Grossmann in the starting lineup but I imagine nobody was more disappointed that Gulutzan as he probably went out on a limb to get this guy signed and starting opening night. One would think Grossmann would try to take this opportunity and at least play a style of game where if he gets beat by a better player so be it but try at all costs not to play sound and avoid costly mistakes. He ends up repaying the head coach by committing a major mistake on his first shift and then again shortly after. I would be lying if I had a finger on the pulse of this guy but I would have to question his hockey smarts after last night's game as he played the exact opposite as you would expect a veteran player in his position to play.

Yeah if he is not hitting then I am not sure what his purpose is.

He should have responded to Kassian's aggression.

For some reason he thinks he's a skill player now. He's at his best when he's hitting everything that moves, but that does take a toll on your body. I know from experience when I played my last couple years, that was my job.

Elliot was bad...but there were some glaring errors on the part of the Flames, the refs, and just bad luck that added to the misery

I agree with the posters calling out Ferland. I noticed on more than one occasion he didn't finish his check last night. He seems to be coasting by on his reputation from the Vancouver series. He has the tools to be a really effective player, but seems to be holding back and/or lacking any intensity. Perhaps a night off or brief AHL stint will be the slap in the face he needs to realize he needs to either score a lot or bring some physical intensity to his game

glad to see immediate adjustment from the coaching staff. There's really zero need to split up Brodie and Giordano.

I hope Elliott can readjust, and quick. Our defensive zone coverage last night was definitely all over the place, but there were 2-3 goals easily that shouldn't have ended up in the back of the net. Coupled with that controversial penalty shot, that was easily a flames win with some saves that he is expected to make.

He doesn't need to play every game like the Vancouver series....just one hit a game, drive to the net, stand in front during the PP, etc...

He is doing none of that.

Full disclosure: I really really like the guy, and I am not starting a "I hate Ferland" thread.

I support Ferland, but I think he's not a fit with Backlund and Frolik. I like Bouma better there. Ferland might do better on the 4th line, crashing the net with those guys.

Not crazy about Engelland and Wideman together, but you need Engelland's physicality and Wideman is still the 3rd or 4th best offensive defenceman and needed on the PP. If a forward could develop into a PP point guy, then he's no longer useful at all.

At some point this year, Ferland will need to realize just how tenuous his hold on an NHL job is.

Not that he doesn't deserve it, but I kinda thought give Johnson the start against the Oil and Elliot back in against Van. If E gets lit up again tomorrow by the same team, at home, that's not good.

I agree with you. However, did he have one hit last night? Preseason he wasn't too physical, so it has me wondering if they want to change his playing style.
