Icon33 Habs fan takes out $20,000 full page ad over PK Subban trade

That's one passionate Habs fan...

A disgruntled Montreal Canadiens season ticket holder says they will only be attending one game this season — when the Habs take on P.K. Subban's new team.

In a full page newspaper ad, which costs roughly $20,000, the self-described "lifelong fan" said the trade that sent Subban to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber this summer has changed the way they feel about the team.

I could think of much better things to spend $20,000 on, but you can't fix stupid.

Wow...now I wish I was in the business of selling $20K ad space. Apparently there are fools who can easily parted with their money.

If this fan is a multi, multi, millionaire, 20k is nothing to express his displeasure.

90% of CP could afford to do this pre-recession

The CBC article didn't comment on the part of the ad where the fan says he's only going to one of his home games, that attendance is a vote of confidence in management (and opposite is true), and that he is working on an "initiative in this regard" that he intends to announce soon and for which he will be seeking fan support.

Sounds like this isn't the last we've heard from this fan on this issue.

While I get the sentiment behind this stunt, it seems like donating $20k and/or your season tickets cost to the Children's Hospital or other community group would have been a better way to praise Subban and follow his lead.

Heck you could have written the same letter with a note about the donation and had the papers publish it for free.

If this fan is a multi, multi, millionaire he probably didnt get that way by pissing his money away in childish tantrums.

If $20 G's to this fan is like 20 bucks to a normal person, I'm sure he has donated plenty.

I'm just surprised people still feel that a $20000 investment in a newspaper gets you any form is return. Aside from the topic, who would still read this?

And I hope its in a great publication too. Something really worthy like 'Chicken and Waffles Quarterly' or 'The Porta-John Annual Exchange.'

Really...something with some respectable readership.

I'm going to wager that people with the means to not have to worry about blowing $20K on this stupidity, wouldn't make such a stupid decision................I guess maybe inherited money.

I'm going to guess this guy simply lacks emotional control and likely is enduring debt and economic hardship to voice his displeasure with his local hockey heros

Hmm he is a troll and can definitely afford to blow 20k on a full page newspaper ad. Plus, he got rich by being good at hockey, not by making sound investments. Also, technically true that he will only be attending the game where Nashville plays in Montreal. Story checks out.

According to sources, this person had the chance to spend his last $20k to immediately save the lives of 150 children through critical surgeries or buy this ad.

He bought the ad.

150 children died.

Newspapers need money too - the powerful are counting down the days when they no longer have to deal with legions of professional journalists questioning what they do.

If the guy makes a million a year (some do) and ignoring tax brackets then $20,000 is the equivalent of $1,000 to someone who makes $50,000. I can see some peed off fan doing that for the satisfaction.

His ad would garner lots of attention - far more than one ad can buy. Maybe he feels his $20,000 fetched him $100,000 of value. The best advertising is the free stuff.

I get that the fan was upset. But it's people like him, in conjunction with the media, that make the Canadiens' (and Canadian) city so tough to play for.

What a waste of money.

Nah man, it's okay. I liked AND shared a pic on FB. Those kids are fine.
