It is a fact that canadians hates swedes more then russians. Everybody hated peter forsberg as much as erik karlsson.
LOL what?
Speaking as someone who attended this game, witness and participated in the chanting of "let's go Sweden" and booing of dirty Russians, I can certainly attest to the fact that you are very, very wrong...
P.S. - the sold out house stuck around to watch the medal presentation and then were greeted with the full team Sweden squad doing a group bow in thanks for the support throughout the game. So... yeah. No.

Seriously?
In both the hockey world and real world Canadians (and really the rest of the world) have much more respect for Swedes than Russians and it's not even close.
Have you ever heard someone say "The Swedish factor"? Because I haven't, but "The Russian factor" is a real thing especially with their knack for bolting to the KHL. It's the main reason the Flames have 0 interest in drafting or signing Russians.
Karlsson is an amazing hockey player and I love watching him. But his defense is just average and this average defense causes the Sens to lose a LOT of games because he's on the ice for half the game and gets exposed by other teams star players. It's for that reason that so many people are outraged he has 2 Norris trophies.
And Peter Forsberg was a very unique and polarizing player, you can't just point to Nationality in his case.
TLDR; Enough with the victim card, it's ridiculous.
I enjoy watching their hockey teams lose though, but that's mainly just because of sune76 showing up on this board every time there is an international competition and proclaiming that he is "cheering for a Team Canada loss".
That's just idiotic.
I know this board has people from all over the world on it, just like it has fans of other NHL teams on it. But no matter what it is still mainly comprised of Canadian Flames fans. So showing up to cheer against the Flames or Team Canada isn't going to win many points around here.

What type of inferiority complex do you need to have to assume Canadians hate the Swedes the most? I have never even contemplated that someone might think that.
Hating Russians? Fair enough.
Hating Americans? Sure, probably more than a couple fans with a bias.
As an amateur hockey historian, it pisses me off that so many - mostly Toronto - media are getting it wrong. But no, Matthews' four goals is not an NHL record in a debut. Both Joe Malone and Harry Hyland scored 5 in their NHL debuts. In 1917. Modern day record, yup. Greatest debut in 99 years? Yup. But not the most in NHL history.
If you actually read into Malone and Hyland you'll see Matthews is really the first. Both were 27 and had already played in the predessesor to the "NHL".
And "Mostly" Toronto media my ass. Everyone is saying it. Name a time when you ever recall Malone or Hyland named amongst the hat trick first game rookies with the other guys who did it. You never did.

Who cares if he was the first, second, third...It basically never happens so it's a pretty special achievement. Enjoy it if you are a Leafs fan. Deal with it if you hate the Leafs.
I liked hearing all the comments on twitter from other NHLers like Seguin, Letang, Stralman...I thought that was neat.
I feel bad for Matthews though...he is going to have to deal with all these moron reporters from all over Canada asking moronic questions. I saw on TSN one guy asking about the parade route. That joke is so lame and Matthews just gave the guy a WTF look.
Since when do Canadians hate Swedes "the most". I'm pretty sure out of all the other major hockey powers, the Swedes are last in terms of "hate". Hell I dislike Finland more than Sweden. And I actually really like Finland.

However, yes, the NHL has a horrible track record of forgetting the history of the sport. Among examples, Bettman claiming the 2007 Ducks were the first team in the Pacific Time Zone to win a Cup, and everyone thinking that the Canadiens have either 23 or 24 NHL titles, when they actually have 25. But, as your own posting history tells us, repeating an error often enough does not make it true, no matter how badly you wish otherwise.
Also, sorry BigTuna, but there is no possible way you can add a qualifier and have the statement "Matthews is the first player to score four goals in his NHL debut" be true. The qualifier changes the statement. He is the first player in the modern era to do so. That is an absolutely true statement. As is, "first player under 27" or "first player using the modern definition of a 'rookie'".

Seriously it is an amazing achievement. I can't believe some people are so butt hurt about it and nit picking. It's great for the sport as well - Jim Rome was talking about Matthews and the NHL for like an hour yesterday.
Furthermore his celebrations were almost the best part. Understated. This kid is going to be a player, my goodness.

I am no Leafs fan. I lived in Ottawa for a while and became a Sens fan so you could say Im not too fond of Toronto.
I couldnt be happier for the Leafs. Reilly, Marner, Matthews, Nylander are all fantastic young players. The franchise and city deserve it imo. Also Matthews seems like a very interesting kid. I really like his attitude and he is probably the most mature rookie I've ever seen, on the ice and also his demeanor in interviews.
It helps that I'm a huge fan of Mitch Marner so I will be watching them very closely. He reminds me even more of Patrick Kane than Gaudreau does and he's a product of the Knights as well!
I've never been so happy for a team that I dont actually like.
