I'm not sure it has fully dawned on Oiler fans just how many things have to go right for this season to amount to anything for them. All jokes aside.

Much like the Canucks, if they expect to make the playoffs, they need a season like we had in 2014-15. Where just about everybody on the roster has a career year.

While many EDM fans are very aware of this by now, interesting to note for others were two draft picks acquired for Griff Reinhart.

Interesting tidbit I have on the new Rogers Arena. I know a few people involved in the construction of it who placed flames stickers inside of some of their heavy duty equipment. Flames paraphernalia hidden in a bunch of spots.
Go Flames Go!

PRETENDING PULJUJARVI IS READY HURTS THE CLUB
http://############.com/2016/10/11/p...hurts-the-club
Quote:
There is no shame in not being ready, but there is one in exposing a kid to the NHL before he’s ready. It can negatively affect the player and certainly will negatively affect the team. Puljujarvi’s English is rudimentary at best. He’s not familiar with the rink size and even he could express as much. He wasn’t effective at all in the defensive, neutral, or offensive zone.
The Oilers ARE going to give him nine games in the NHL, most likely right away. They do that despite the fact that he didn’t pass the test after the six games he saw over the last two and a half weeks. Unlike the CHL players who Edmonton drafted before him, Puljujarvi can play in the AHL right now and be recalled at will. Leon Draisaitl, Taylor Hall, and Nugent-Hopkins’ 9 game audition HAD to happen at the beginning of the season. Puljujarvi’s audition can come now, December, or March if the team wanted (or needed) it. It can come after he’s earned it.
It won't. It will happen now, barring a last second move. Just don’t let anybody tell you it’s because he earned, because it doesn’t matter, or because there’s no harm in playing him. He hasn’t, it does, there certainly can be.

You actually couldn't get it more wrong than the Oilers have this off season if you tried.

It's ridiculous to have such a long opening ceremony for a rink; what's getting celebrated? No winning seasons, no playoffs, even 1st overall picks get traded every couple of months now (which is what lead to the last batch of embarrassing parties).
It's not the first event, it's not even the first hockey game; it's a building opening. Do other building openings get ceremonies like this? Put a ribbon at centre ice or have Connor skate over the lynx as ceremonial road kill. But no, there is an hour of oilers patting themselves on the back. Didn't we just do this in April for the old rink? My favourite story about that was hearing that the Canucks had already traveled to their hotel rooms in Calgary and the closing ceremonies were still going on in Edmonton.
I asked myself why I cared and I had to admit that I don't really; "let them enjoy the moment" I thought. Honestly though, it's like an hour long infomercial that could have been streamed on the website or other channel so that the game could be started and finished on time. The NHL should have stopped this or asked for it to be done pre game and not game time.

To me, the Alberta Government has to be very careful of the optics of having a big part in this ceremony. I mean honestly how much money did Katz blackmail out of the taxpayers for his sweet heart deal.
This cereomony needs to start with
"Motivated by Katz, indication that he would move the team if Albertan's didn't pay for this thing"
Then show the video of Derp and Derp 2 and Derp 3 in Seattle"

What the hell? Does this make the Oilers the team with the most player numbers over #90?

I hope Gulutzan keeps the Flames in the locker room and not on the bench getting cramped up.
Let the Greasers do that.
We won't be tuning in at home until the national anthem starts

I have a funny feeling that this kid isn't going to last the 9 games, which is a big problem for the Oilers and their poor forward depth after the first line.
A big piece of their ability to move Hall and Yak was the assumption that this kid was going to be completely NHL ready. But everything I've read says he needs a year in the AHL.

The funny thing is they can send this guy to the AHL and call him back at any time to serve his 9 games, they don't have to do it now like with Junior players. You'd think they'd want to take advantage of that and wait till he's settled in and in a good frame of mind to bring him up. Nope, they are going to use those games up now.
