Okay what the effing hell?

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Engelland and Wideman are going to get more minutes than Hamilton. How does that make sense?

Edit: Maybe they are showcasing Wideman/Engelland for a trade?

Not a fan.
It guarantees you that you always have a reliable defenseman on the ice with any three pairs.

Also not a fan of the move but curious to see how minutes would be spread out.

Well, it's either Engelland playing the top competition Brodie plays against (which would be an even worse tire fire) or you waste Brodie playing him against second rate competition. Neither are good options.

This is an absolutely bizzare move.

Brodie managed just fine in the playoffs with Engelland, I think it will be a great shut down pair. They compliment each other's skill sets well imo.

The only thing this hurts is Brodie's offensive production, but this could also open up more opportunities for other players like Wideman or Hamilton.

As long as Hamilton is on the top PP unit, I am fine with this setup.

The lineup just changed in less than 24 hours. Want to try again?

So those three pairings are almost equal imo.

If they double shift Gio and Brodie together a few times a period it could work out alright.

Engellend and Wideman should not be on the ice together.

This hurts Brodie on my fantasy team. Gulutzan is already in my doghouse

Gio - Brodie - 10 minutes
Gio - Wideman - 15 minutes
Brodie - Engellend 15 minutes
Hamilton - Jokki - 20 minutes

I'd be alright with a breakdown like that.

Engelland has been solid defensively in his time here. Arguably underrated by a section of the fan base. He's looked great when he's had to play top 4 due to injury. I don't mind Brodie-Engelland that could be a premiere shut down pairing.

That said Giordano-Wideman has the potential to be god awful. Rather have Hamilton there and Wideman on the 3rd pairing.

That said if the Flames can rehabilitate Wideman's trade value this year we might be able to get a haul for him at the deadline.

Yeah I dropped him as soon as I could after Gulutzan was hired. I figured he would be the most affected by the change in philosophy. I really don't mind this from a fan perspective though, Brodie-Engelland has potential to be a very good shut down pair, and it allows Gio and Hamilton to feast on easier matchups.

I don't like Wideman on the roster at all, but what are you gonna do? You can't trade him and the owners clearly didn't want to eat that contract.

So the best thing to do is try and maximize his use.

I don't know if it's going to work, it probably won't, but at least they are trying instead of just sitting in front of a computer complaining about it like the rest of us.

On the other hand, I could relax a bit when I see the 4th line take a defensive zone faceoff and it's not Wideman-Engelland out there like it would be with Hartley

I can understand it. You try to minimize the suck.

My guess, but those were the practice lines for the forwards today and the defence is what Gully said.

Ahh the classic "ear want a free goal?" routine that Hartley loved to do last season.

Bouma - Stajan - Bollig

Engellend - Wideman

Just dreaded seeing that. The fiance would always tell me to calm down when I saw them on.

IIRC Brodie and Engelland played excellent together when Giordano was out in '15.

I trust what GG chooses to do. Having one of Giordano, Brodie, and Hamilton on the ice at all times is nice.

Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - Engelland
Jokipakka - Hamilton

Top pairing in the series where they beat Gulutzan's team.
