I'm honestly kind of shocked that the Gio Cap exists.....

But F it, good deal - let's go crush the Oil!

Well, I think the signing amount and Gio cap is team friendly. How great is it that the core are all similarly paid, so they can focus on just one think, playing hockey.

This is a great deal for the Flames club and have to thank Trelliving and Johnny for getting it done.

I have to say it...

Not wanting to go over Gio's $6.75 million in not exactly the same as there being a "Gio-cap". The former implies that they don't want one single player making more than that for structure purposes, and the latter implies that Gio's salary itself is what sets the limit.

It's a subtle but important difference.

Gaudreau - Monahan - whatever
Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer

That just got a billion times better

The good thing about a Gio cap, and Johnny accepting it, is that it sets a decent bar for the younger guys.

Six years is perfect IMO. The Flames get Johnny Gaudreau for all of his prime years. If he wants to sign with the Flames again that's great. If another team steps up and wants to buy the back9 that's fine too.

Either way, the Flames are gonna get the most bang for your buck. This is the contract where he gets paid for what he is going to do. The next contract he will get paid for what he has done.

Especially when Bennett scores 40 goals this season

Just to gauge how long 6 years is in hockey terms;

In the 2010/11 season...

Your top 10 point getters were, both Sedins, Martin St. Louis, Perry, Iginla, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Zetterburg, Selanne and Brad Richards.

Top 5 in save% were, Tim Thomas, Pekka Rinne, Cory Schneider, Roberto Luongo and...Jonas Hiller.

top scoring rookies were, Jeff Skinner, Logan Couture, Michael Grabner, Tyler Ennis and Derek Stepan.

Lidstrom won the Norris, Kesler won the Selke, Sedin won the Art Ross, Mike Gillis won GM of the year and Dan Bylsma was coach of the year.

6 years is a long time in this game and this contract is a great one considering the cost.

In fairness wasn't that a 7 year term?

Except the poll was explicitly for a 7 year deal. Nobody was right because the poll assumed an amount of years that he did not sign for.

The poll was for 7 year term which would probably put it at around 7 aav.

The poll was 7 year term so that changes it.

I think the consensus value of Gaudreau was 5.5-6mil per RFA year and 10 mil per UFA year.

That puts the six year deal at between 37.5 and 40 mil. So Johnny's 40.5 was on the high side of that valuation but CP consensus was pretty much correct.
