Well he followed me around this forum for months posting passive aggressive dribble with very little logic and a lot of negativity. He was dead wrong, insulting and very condescending for months. Do I just ignore that type of behavior? I'm far from perfect but I've never taken up a personal vendetta trying to shut someone down for months.

Just to be clear - I'm not negative. I was optimistic we'd get a home run of a deal, but like most things - reality fell slightly below that.
6 years is a crud term when compared to some other young players deal (7 or 8 years), but 6.75 is an awesome cap hit for someone on Johnny's level.
So, you take the good and you take the bad.
This deal makes sense. I still think it would've been better to pay a bit of a premium now to lock up those extra UFA years - but, that's a gamble on both sides.
This contract is a great comparison to Kane and Toews' second contracts. And modelling yourself after the Blackhawks...that's a good thing.

The current Johnny and Mony contracts reminds me of Kane's and Toew's contract after their ELC expired. Let's hope these guys don't ask for $10.5 M when they get their third contracts

Good contract. I thought it would be over 7 for sure.

So yeah, go on "discussing" that.

For those worried about the six-year term, think about this...
Gaudreau has already played 160 games for the Flames. If he plays every game for the next 6 years, that will bring his total to 652. Only 6 players have ever played more than that many games for the Flames: Iginla, Regehr, MacInnis, Fleury, Otto, and Peplinski (and Gio should cross that threshold this year).
Even if he misses a few games over the course of the contract, and even if Gio, Monahan, and Backlund stay ahead of him on the list, he'll still likely be Top-10 in games played as a Flame by the time this contract ends.
Six years is not a short time...and there's no guarantee he doesn't sign another contract when this one is over.

What's the point of making a comment like this? Can we please move on from that kind of conversation now? Gaudreau is signed and our season starts in 2 days. Better things to talk about.

I didn't think the Gio cap was a thing, but apparently it may well be.
i do wonder though if the Gio cap has less to do with money and everything to do with term?

This isn't necessarily proof of a Gio cap. It's just what a contract with only one UFA year costs.

No, but you can be more playful about it and enjoy the high road. Your way just shows he got under your skin and encourages the behaviour.

Can't believe we got him under $7M, Tree is a wizard! Would've like to see a couple more years on there, but maybe the low AAV was the reward for that.
Why are so many worried he's gone after that? Just cuz he's an American from out east? If he was from Ontario would you have the same concerns? Unless I'm missing something, it just seems like a classic Canadian inferiority complex.

So pleased, I always expected him to sign but was starting to worry it'd be a bridge. Who knows what'll happen in the next 6 years, other than we'll get to see Johnny's magic mitts in our jersey.

Hearing limited NTC for the Flames of 5 undisclosed teams Johnny can choose during his UFA years. Nothing wrong with that.

My bad got that mixed up.
But yeah I think he wanted 8 years but the Flames weren't willing to budge on the $6.75.
And in that case I don't blame Gaudreau.
Either way this is a great day!

Great news.
I said earlier that I'd be surprised if it was done. So happy all around. Would have liked more term but it is what it is.

Must be a strange world where talking about how the contract might have or might not have turned out differently is pessimism. You must live in a true utopia if that's the case.
