I'd be more afraid of the family being there if I were Gross, actually. I'd want to be the only one in Johnny's ear.

I would think that if it's this much of a sacrifice for him to sign here, this is the last contract he has with the Flames either way.

Have you meet all four or something? What an awkwardly creepy thing to say.

I would suggest it is equally annoying for both the Flames and Gross.

I really don't fault anyone here but I really wish gaudreau had just canned the "awe shucks" crap earlier this summer.

Hate to say it but the last time I recall a family being involved like that was Lindros. Bobby Clarke had to deal with Momma and Poppa Lindros all the time. If memory serves Poppa actually became his agent in later stages of his career.

People keep saying that, but exactly how did he do that. I never had a negative perception of JG, still don't, this is all business. But I also never associated him with a choire boy personna or with any sort of "awe schuks" kind of image.
I've kind of always thought of him as a really confident guy who actually thinks quiet highly of himself (and that's a good thing) with a bit of a partying problem.

Mr. Gaudreau had the kid in skates at the age of 2. Go back to the Players Tribune article and see how many times the father is mentioned. Never in my life have I read so many articles about a player that mentions his mom and dad being so upset because they have to stay up late to watch games, or are miss games, or travel to the games. It's weird. I said it a few days ago and I'll say it again - my money is on the probability that Dad is running this show.

This is not surprising or unexpected at all particularly given the family's involvement last time. There is no way he signs a contract like this without direct input from his parents. I wouldn't be surprised if dad was on every call and in every meeting with Gross. There might have even been calls and meetings between Gross and mom and dad without JG.

I agree and have no problem with that, provided dad is negotiating for what Johnny wants, not just what he wants.

After reading through this thread and a few others on CP I can only imagine that the crack business has seen a massive spike in sales over the last couple of weeks.

Some day, many generation from this one, a future civilization will be learning of our society and some kid will ask "how did a civilization as great as that one perish."
The teacher, prepared for the obvious question, will bring out a picture of Trump, a copy of the latest Lady Gaga song, and a transcript of this thread. The kid will understand.

Inviting the family could've been a strategic move on the Flamed part as much as from their end. There's been much speculation here that Gross' ask is unreasonable and that Gross has much self interest in this contract. The Gaudreau's have been very reasonable and supportive from what I've heard from his initial contract and leaving college. It seems to me entirely plausible that the Flames might hope they would see that the Flames contract stance is reasonable and the agent is asking for something unreasonable that will never happen.
Just trying to show another potential viewpoint on the family meeting since we likely will never know why.

Ugh Johnny.. don't involve the family. It's your career and your contract. This is when you take control or your own affairs as an individual adult. I really don't know if it's wise to involve a family in things that involve astronomical amounts of money when coming from middle class income. Feelings and irrationality can run high in these sorts of situation. That is why you don't do it. Just adding all sorts of unnecessary stresses and pressure.
