@ bigrangy

I like armchair GMs like you who think that NHL teams should have 4 first lines and if a defenceman doesn't score 10 they are no good. It's quite amusing.

I doubt Nakladal is better than Kevin, or maybe even Engelland. But I'd rather have him than Grossman. That is all.

Not even comparable. Strawman was 23 when the Flames traded him. Plus they did get a decent 3rd round pick. So he had value when Sutter miss evaluated him.

Nakladal just signed a cheap 1 year contract on Octobet 9th. Carolina is expecting a #7 defenceman here.

I like how apologists like you rationalize the management actively opting for inferior hockey players like Engelland, Bollig, Raymond, Brouwer to the Schlemko, Baertschi, Nakladal, Byron, Jooris, Hudler, Cammalleri that we already had. But nope, management can never do any wrong. I can already foresee the apologists talking about how replacing Gaudreau with a bunch of 2nd/3rd line tweeners was best course of action.

You can have 4th liners that push the play. Byron was one. Jooris was one. Nakladal was one. Ferland is one right now (but he can be better than a 4th liner imo). Kulak can be one this year.

Bollig, Wideman, Engelland are not these kind of players. This team would win more games if they were replaced with the guys in the first paragraph, chemistry and locker room presence aside.

Look at the cup finals this year. Pittsburgh didn't really have talented players outside of their big 3 forwards. But almost all their guys were effective in playing a possession game that wore down San Jose. When I was watching that series, San Jose was usually doing fine until the Polak pairing stepped on the ice, when they were hemmed in and gave up a lot of quality chances. If their bottom pairing was focused on being able to move the puck rather than face punching, I would have given them a better chance of winning.

I think it's far more likely that Flames sign Higgins than Grossmann.

None of the players you mention were chosen for the other ones you mention. For example, how was Engelland, who was here already, chosen over Schlemko?

Apologists? Obviously you don't know my posting history very well.

Sure, if Wideman wasn't signed, it would have been nice to have Nakladal in that role, but he is. No point in signing Nakladal, with Wideman already being here is there?

And Raymond is no longer part of the organization, not sure where you're going with that one.

Higgins and Grossman have to be released. I want neither anywhere near the team come Wednesday.

How is Brouwer anything like Bollig or Raymond? Yes, I would rather have him over Jooris, Byron, Baerstchi or the new slow Hudler

He played half decent in meaningless games down the stretch...if he was as good as some of you think he wouldn't be signing a 600k contract.

Not a big loss for the team. I'm surprised at the reaction of some and I would honestly rather have Grossman anyway, the team needs a big rough pk guy over another smallish guy show more offensive.

I feel the same way. I like Nakladal and I thought they would re-sign him in the offseason. I guess they thought they wanted to give the young guys like Kulak and Wotherspoon a chance to make the team.

Good luck in Carolina Nakladal!! I am glad he didn't sign with Canucks or Oilers.
