So do we have a ikea bet Smyth?

Of course you'd have a biased perspective.
Everyone out in the East knows about WEM.
As far as Ikea, I'd like some more proof

That people in America know about the Stampede.
Most Americans have never heard of Calgary, let alone know about a fair/carnival.

I'm from the Maritimes and I heard of both the Stampede and the 'Mall' for what that's worth.

The appellant, Ikea Limited (“Ikea”), is a furniture retailer which carries on its business through retail outlets which it owns or leases throughout Canada. In 1985, Ikea entered into a 10-year lease of premises at the West Edmonton Mall (the “Mall”), with an option to extend the lease for a further 10 years. The lease provided for a base rent, payable in monthly instalments, plus a percentage rent based on sales. In an agreement dated six days after the original lease, Ikea became entitled to receive a TIP of $2,650,000 from the Mall.

I bet more people have heard of the Stampede than Calgary.
It is a big name everywhere I have been.

Most Americans don't know about Calgary, that is true. But the ones that do, a great chunk of them know about the Stampede. Believe me or not, but I've lived here for around 4 years now, and I've had to introduce myself to a LOT of people....it inevitably comes up.

Gee, you'd think it was the Golden Temple of Amritsar or something...

from my travels...which are considerable...Calgary recognition is usually significant due to the...Winter Olympics. The Mall and Stampede are insignificant otherwise.

I would have thought the Olympics would be more recognizable as well, but in my experience more know about the Stampede than 88. Although both might be eclipsed by, of all things, the Flames!

Well, I never saw Ikea in the mall myself, so I'd remain skeptical.

You have a identity crisis.
On HF, you trash Calgary, call down the rudeness and the attitudes of Calgarian's, claim you'd rather live in Edmonton than Calgary, and then come on this site to trash Edmonton.
