No surprises for me. Looking forward to the day when the Flames' bottom six is mostly two-way contracts, though.

Just spit-balling, but until Johnny signs I would like to see:
Tkachuk-Bennett-Brouwer
Backlund-Monahan-Frolik
Bouma-Stajan-Ferland
Bollig-Hamilton-Chiasson

So, with today’s moves and assuming Gaudreau signs, bubble forwards are Higgins, Korpikoski, Hamilton, Vey fighting for 2 spots. #Flames
So at least one of Korpikoski and Higgins have made the team for sure?

Time to axe some PTO dead weight. I figure these guys will be released in the next couple of days.

Maybe after they get paid signing autographs. All the PTOs here at the flames rally signing autographs.

I am pretty disappointed that it appears none of our forward prospects made a big impression at camp. There were spots open

I agree, though Freddie Hamilton looked really good from what I saw.
I was hoping Shinkaruk and/or Hathaway would have claimed a spot however.

Of course, it was the last game of the season and it made Calgary's draft lottery chances worse, so most people were pissed that he actually helped win a hockey game when it was an overall detriment to the team's (potential) future.
|
Well to put things into perspective.. yes had we lost one mor wed have picked third..not 100% convinced we wouldn't have taken Tkachuk anyway..but ..one more point and we would have picked 2nd

So which PTO forward does everyone prefer or thinks makes it? I think Korpi with his speed and defensive ability could be a fine 4th liner I think.

I guess Korpi over the others but prefer none of the above.

Couldn't it be Vey and Hamilton and none of the PTOs make it?

Little bit surprised on Shinkaruk, but probably not the worst thing for him thought. Should be able to go down to Stockton and play well and continue to develop. In the games I watched I thought he was good, but at the end of the day he didn't produce. I feel like he's close though.
I think Korpikoski might be the only one to earn a contract. I think he can still play in the league as a bottom 6 guy. I'm really hoping they don't sign Grossman.

Flames cut 4 players - Hathaway, Rittich, Shinkaruk, Wotherspoon
Are any of the PTO guys at the Red Rally signing autographs? I know Vey and Hamilton are. Maybe the PTO guys are getting a talk with Gully as it's happening. One can hope...

A lot of our prospects never got a chance to play with skilled players. Thanks Johnny!
Some never got a serious look. Janko Poirier Mangiapane. Even Klimchuk, who I thought had a fine camp. Klimchuk I thought looked good in limited action and I am not his biggest supporter.
Dump the PTO's, let the kids fight it out for a roster spot.

This forward group has some holes. How the hell didn't Shinkaruk steal a spot? He should be kicking himself.

Agreed, it's entirely on him. He didn't do enough in camp, and others (Kulak, Hamilton) took the opportunity and showed they had enough to belong.
It's unfortunate because I had him penciled into one of the top 6 spots all off-season. I bet he thought he was going to be given more credit for what he did at the end of the year on the top line. Doesn't work that way kid, you gotta be consistent.

Well yeah. We'll see if he sticks. But he wasn't exactly developed in the Flames system. Hopefully we aren't always going to be drafting that high.
