Flames cut 4 players - Hathaway, Rittich, Shinkaruk, Wotherspoon
starting to get notes on cuts today. Should be more today:
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Just ran into Flames prospect Garnet Hathaway. Headed to Stockton.
Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Just shook hands with Garnet Hathaway, bag and sticks in hand, and wished him good luck in Stockton as he hopped in a cab for the airport.

That's a shame.
Hathaway >>> Bollig.

Surprising to me but there is a possibility that this is very much just until the season begins and they can put Smid on LTIR.

some posters keep suggesting this but Bollig is going to be in the press box and lucky to get 30 games. That is not a place for Hathaway.

I'm really disappointed. He is a far superior player to Bollig and deserved to make it.

Bollig played 127 of 175 games (72.6%) since we acquired him. Which according to Burke, was not enough.
Let's get real.
The management's blind love for Brandon Bollig is an embarrassment. Hathaway helped us win hockey games, even if just fuelled by adrenaline he legitimately dominated the best he could. Did Bollig ever help us win a hockey game?

Hathaway is turning 25 next month, I bet he disagrees with you. There isn't much upside left there either. He got cut because he just isn't good enough.
Freddie Hamilton is a better option than either IMO

I was expecting Hathaway to play with that type of rabid passion he displayed last year. I didn't get a chance to see all of the games he was in, but it doesn't like he was at that level?

The key part of your statement in my eyes is "played". He has looked brutal and i don't care what Burke had to say, i just don't see him getting many games.

Actually it's comparing a 4th liner (Hathaway) to an ECHLer (Bollig).

Of course, it was the last game of the season and it made Calgary's draft lottery chances worse, so most people were pissed that he actually helped win a hockey game when it was an overall detriment to the team's (potential) future.

I don't see much difference in terms of overall impact to the Calgary Flames. Both are replacement level players who don't matter in the big picture. Both will be gone from the organization this time next year IMO.

Didn't realise Hathaway was that old. I agree that Hamilton is the better option over both of them. I really think Hamilton deserves Stajan's 4th line center spot. Granted I have no idea what they will do with Stajan. Some posters say put him on wing, but i think his days are numbered until he recieves a buy-out.

that actually made me pretty mad. just when i thought he couldn't hurt the team more...
and bollig isn't good enough to score at an ahl level. i have no idea why he's not cut. confusing/infuriating
