Daigle was pretty terrible, too. But Yakupov is in the conversation. One of the five worst, I'd say.

No brainer: Trade the pick for a an established d-man or high rated defensive prospect.

Given their situation, that was a horrible pick. There is no way around it.

If Vincent Lecavalier is the Michael Jordan of Hockey, Nail Yakupov is the Michael Scott

You've seen what happens when they make trades. They probably would have just swapped picks with the Islanders straight up then took Reinhart.

Everyone and their mom was screaming at the Oilers to trade the pick. Yakupov's value was never higher than the day before he was drafted. Most #1 picks are like that. They probably could have got a bonafide top-2 dman for a #1 overall pick.

Yakupov pick was a Debacle of Monumental Proportions. Katz's thumbprints all over this one. Too bad it went so spectacularly sour, because it discourages more owner interference. (See Ballard, Harold, TML)

Unfair to Dipietro. He was at least good until he was injured. If he didn't get hurt repeatedly, he probably would have been a top 10 starter in the league through the back half of the 00's

If you want an excellent companion piece to your reading of reactions to the Yak deal I encourage you to read "value of Griffin Reinhart" on HF.

Although, trading Luongo and then making the DiPietro pick made it bad no matter what.

Agreed. 14 goals and 55 assists sounds good to me.

Dipiertro had one season where he didn't suck.

more likely Landon Ferraro for now, but once Jaden Schwartz is back healthy, they will need to make a decision on Rattie or Paajarvi
