I know some of you just can't help yourselves but at least stop quoting him for the love of god.

Yes there is, and I explain precisely why in my last post above.

Since you say so I find myself powerfully attracted to VilleN's equally plausible speculation.

IMO this isn't really a negotiation. The flames hold all the cards. Every single one.

Why can't Brad say, "the offer is 6.8 x 8. It drops by 0.1m for every game you sit-out. Your options are to sign it or sit out. Call me when you're ready to sign." And that's the end of it.

Why do the flames care if he sits out this year - its not like the team is a stanley cup favorite. And its not as if Johnny can go anywhere. He can basically just sit out.

I don't know man. I've spent a lot of time in Winnipeg due to how much family we have there and I can say Calgary is a whole lot nicer than Winnipeg. Winnipeg is so depressing and run down.

It is amazing to think that a player 75% of the board did not believe in 3 short years ago has generated this level of hysteria and irrationality.

Probably because he actually cares about the team's relationship with the player.

Eight years and a stanely cup heals all wounds when the wound is whether you deserve to make US$6.8m a year or US$7.5m a year

Like seriously - whats going to happen? Is JG going to whine for 8 years and kill his dreams of winning a cup? I doubt it.

Default Sorry, Gaudreau is awesome but not worth over $8M AAV.

He is worth under $6.5M for the first 3 years of the next contract, and then MAY be worth upwards of $8M. These are the facts I see them I imagine all the haggling is over how to accommodate higher salaries in years 4+. I would guess that the Flames want a base of lets say 7.5 with the rest as bonuses (top 5 in league scoring = 2 M extra, etc.), but G+G want it as guaranteed salary (in case of injury). Unless there are CBA details I am unaware of that limit bonuses (entirely possible).

Its laughable that we'll spend big money on guys like Stajan, Wideman, Brouwer, Engelland etc but when time comes to pay our franchise player we all of the sudden go into austerity mode? We had no problem paying Monahan more than all his comps, or signing Gio until he's 40. But we can't pay the guy who runs our entire offense for his prime years? Risk ruining the relationship and this season too save an extra ~1M in cap space we might need in the future?

Its hilarious that some people defend that line of thinking while simultaneously blaming Gaudreau for wanting to be paid what he's worth.
You *always* need the extra cap space. And you're wrong about it being a discount. Again.

Yes you can die from constipation but usually on the 10th day your body pushes it out no matter what and you give birth to what resembles a turd baby

Who knows what it would do? Being treated like that by your boss would affect everyone differently. If my manager proposed an offer that declined each day that I didn't accept, I would tell him to go #### himself.

If ever there was a thread deserving of derailment, this one would be it.

I lived the first 35 years of my life in Winnipeg. It took me all of one day living here in Calgary to know I was never going back.

We're one day closer to something substantive happening in this saga.
