We have to be ready for anything, maybe Gaudreau has changed his mind after the meetings with Brad Trevling.

Or maybe he hasn't. Or maybe he's decided to sign for 8 years at 5 mil per. Or maybe he's developed a love for steeplechase and will retire from the NHL to pursue Olympic glory. Anything is possible.

I have a feeling that Johnny is pulling an Andy Kaufman and he is actually playing the part of himself and this "Lewis Gross" and that is why negotiations are taking so long.

I would have to think that insisting on a trade is a road that Gaudreau wants to avoid at practically any cost. Once he triggers this course of action, there is no going back, and he essentially relinquishes total control over his next playing destination to the Flames. Not only does the player receive no assurance of landing in a destination of his choice, in Gaudreau's case there remains the huge uncertainty that he will even earn a higher contract with a new team.

It is a huge risk for Gaudreau to request a trade, and I am quite sure we are a VERY long way from that point just yet.

The reason Trouba asked for a trade is because Winnipeg is terrible, and no one wants to play there.

Realistically, Calgary and Edmonton aren't much better.

Its laughable that we'll spend big money on guys like Stajan, Wideman, Brouwer, Engelland etc but when time comes to pay our franchise player we all of the sudden go into austerity mode? We had no problem paying Monahan more than all his comps, or signing Gio until he's 40. But we can't pay the guy who runs our entire offense for his prime years? Risk ruining the relationship and this season too save an extra ~1M in cap space we might need in the future?

Its hilarious that some people defend that line of thinking while simultaneously blaming Gaudreau for wanting to be paid what he's worth.

Maybe Johnny Gaudreau is dead, and they are now formulating a plan to reanimate his body and THAT is what is stalling these negotiations... it makes so much sense I just blew my own mind. We've got to be ready.

Impossible argument to win, as city preferences are 100% personal opinion. But very few would share your opinion on that one.

There is nothing unreasonable about Gaudreau asking for a trade, at this point there is nothing unreasonable.

Sometimes there's just so much respect that it boils over

No doubt and I agree that city preferences are always personal opinion, but we are on a Flames board and nearly everybody is a homer. I love Calgary (born and raised) but from a players perspective, it isn't a whole lot better than a place like Winnipeg. Same goes for Edmonton.

Just to spitball this, even IF he asked for a trade the Flames asking price would be so astronomically ridiculously high it would never happen.

We are talking about an 80 pt 23 year old franchise player who is arguably one of the most entertaining players in the league. I can't even begin to speculate what he's worth.

If you think $6.5 -$7M for an RFA is 'austerity mode', you're an idiot. Or a crazed agent.

Also, it can easily be argued that both Monahan and Giordano did take discounts. Not to mention Brodie. Regardless, it isn't about discounts, it's about fair - both for the player, and the team.

But most of all, 'what he's worth' is a subjective phrase, and you don't get to decide what it is.
