McKenzie: Gaudreau & Flames are closing gap, but it's still a considerable gap.

7 is a good deal for both sides. If it all goes to hell and Gaudreau ends up traded, it will sure be interesting to see what he signs for.

At this stage it would not surprise me at all. If the rumours are true, being so far apart in money, do the 2 sides start to think of a bridge deal instead?

I'd rather they strong arm Bennett next year cause I guarantee you he doesn't hit the level Johnny is already at by the time that contract comes up.

It can be argued he's not even the best and brightest talent currently on the team, much less ever seen.
6.9/7 years makes sense.

I would expect below 7 million for a 7 year contract. If it goes to the 8th year then low 7's is appropriate.
Both sides saying their numbers without term lengths is meaningless to me.

Could a thread featuring only polak and gaudreauvertive survive with the absurd amounts of hyperbole it would have?

The bolded part is fair enough. You also have to coincide that if it was ever revealed that Johnny's camp wouldn't come down from the high 7's low 8's, then it would be on Gross and his client .
Basically we will probably never know for sure one way or another.

Yeah Bennett and his 36 points last year is worth sending off a PPG 23 year old player cause he wants half a million more than your 33 year old defense man.

No this forum is going into full denial mode. Anything to convince themselves that almighty Treliving is doing the right thing when it's clear that he is not.

Why would he be joking? Brodie has as much impact as Gaudreau does, Gio is up there too. This isn't a one player team, no matter how some on this forum are desperate to pay Gaudreau like it is.

The only good thing out of the Gaudreau negations is that, we might have a shot at Nolan Patrick.

You're kind of painting us into a corner here...If we disagree with you, you will say we are proving your point and if we agree with you are right.

How many points did Gaudreau have as a 19 year old again? As a 20 year old? Was I talking about Bennett?
Giordano had 21 goals and 54 points last year, he plays defense. The last several years his defense has been as good as his offense. So maybe we shouldn't be dismissive of that because your Johnny needs a contract.

No one has a GD clue who is asking for what, it is all conjecture and guesswork.
Anyone getting their panties in a bunch either way is getting fired up for nothing...ridiculous.
We almost always find out that the numbers being reported during these things isn't the actual reality.

A $7.5 million player doesn't mean it's a one player team.

You realize that you have actually talked yourself into being mad at Treliving without any actual facts right?

7-7.5 is fair if it is an 8 year deal. Each year that comes off, the AAV should be coming down significantly. Remember, the contract will cover 5 years of RFA. If Gross and Johnny can't see that, they can pound sand and sit out.
Edit: I'm sure the Flames would agree to a 7-7.5 AAV 8 year agreement too. If they didn't, I would say they dropped the ball as well.

Gio is a great leader and number 1 Dman albeit older
Brodie is emerging as an elite 2 way Dman that gets better every year
Monahan is our big body number 1 centre.
Bennett, Hamilton, Tkachuk represent 3 huge pieces of our future
Johnny in my opinion is the face of the franchise and engine that drives the offense. While a winger should typically not be considered a teams franchise player I think in our situation Johnny is in fact that piece for us. No Gio cap Treliving needs to establish the Johnny cap
