A Lufthansa 747 just landed in Calgary. Must be some sort of emergency because the flight was scheduled Frankfurt to Seattle.

Medical diversion, just watched it depart off of 17R with some great condensation effects as it passed by over McCall lake.

Must have been something really urgent. If it was going to Seattle, that's only like an hour-ish more flight time, especially if you're already cruising at well over FL300.

The airlines have doctors on the ground, and then consult with their dispatch people and what not and they tell them where to go. Pilot obviously has the final say, but I remember working one when I was controlling and he was closer to Edmonton and it was clearly the better choice but he said their company said go to Calgary so... off they went.

Foreigners still have to pay for their healthcare costs in the Canadian system.

NASA's Global Hawk on a ~21 hour flight from California to check out Matthew, see the flight here:

They're posting stories from the plane on Snapchat and Instagram too.

Cessna Citation flying from Kelowna to Calgary-Springbank crashed, looks like shortly after departure. All four on board dead.

This appears to be the flight log from Flightaware, if you click on the track log you'll note that the last confirmed report (from Vancouver Centre) shows a descent rate of 2200 feet per minute.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/C...10ZZ/CYLW/CYBW

Track log:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/C.../CYBW/tracklog

You can see that all reports after that one are simply Flightaware estimating the aircraft position. Had it still been flying Calgary ATC would have picked it up and the flight map would have shown the green line track until landing at Springbank instead of the grey estimate line.

Crappy...

Rumblings on twitter that former Alberta premier Jim Prentice, may be among the victims.

Thinking about taking an Air Canada flight back to Calgary from Toronto that is one of those new Drealiners (787). I'm not a small guy by any means, but generally find Air Canada to have pretty good seat size (excluding rouge).

Anyone fly one of these yet? Any comments as to seat size? When I look at the dimensions online it seems like a standard seat, but all I keep reading for reviews is horror stories online. Are the seats really that narrow on these, or are people just used to bigger than conventional seats on overseas flights?

Really liked my flight on the 787 this summer. Seats felt the same size as on any other international Air Canada flight.

Seeing the self tinting windows is worth it alone

Don't think they use the 787 on that route, you'd be lucky to get a 767 which they might use once a day.
