Those look like pictures of the Calgary skyline with random tall buildings photochopped in.
I'm not exactly in the loop, but the only "major" skyscraper I know of that is actually planned is the Encana one, and I don't see it in any of those photos.

Could you imagine the carnage from flying cars?
The Stampede casino and hotel aren't seen either, correct?
And where is the East Village? And the Cecil ,St Louis and the Regis give me bearings. Where are they?
Interesting pictures, Rakiet, are they within the viewcalgary site ?

That's exactly what they are. Not a single one of those pictures shows The Bow to scale or any proposed buildings. The FCC tower 2 rendering is nice and all but it is still just a rumor. Where's Arriva 1, 2, 3, or 4,Vetro/Sasso, Monteraux/Lausane, City Centre, Stampede Station, etc, etc...
I have never heard anything about Shell either. Where is this coming from?

Nope, not exactly. The big buzz over there is Imperial Oil, and based on actual news too, not just 'imagination'.
Here's a link: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=117879
I've read nearly every post on there re: Calgary development for several years, and I've never heard anything about another Shell tower.
Besides, the poster there who does all the composite renderings, CtrlAltDel (who did most of the ones on the front page), has come up with another much newer one...
... and all these added renderings are the real deal. Looks cool, eh?

There's more tower construction in calgary than canada combined.
ps. there's 2 50+ story condo's not even pictured in the above photo's

Any links for Shell's new tower? I don't it, they are refinishing their existing building to add about 30% capacity, they have 10 floors in Calgary Place and will have a few in Livingston when its done.
I heard Ritz Carlton is looking at doing a 80 story building, half hotel half residential.

There are not even any shell rumours to speak of. The only other major company that is considering building is Imperial Oil, on their lot between 5th and 6th ave and 4th and 5th street right in the middle of downtown.
A financial post article the day after EnCana was released said that they sent out request for proposals to several developers to come up with ideas as to what they should do. Imperial is in a similar situation to EnCana in that their employees are scattered all over downtown. They would like to consolodate either through building their own building like EnCana, or becoming a tenant in a major new office building.
Like Mr ski said, those ones on the front page are old and most of the new buildings are based on imagination of rumoured or proposed buildings that hadn't released their design yet such as EnCana, FCC2, and City Centre.

I heard ritz carlton was looking as well, but where did you hear the rumours about height, configuration. Could be a lot like what they are building in Toronto if true.
Another interesting one is Hotel Le Germain, a high end Montreal based boutique hotel chain is building right across the street from the Calgary Tower on that empty lot on 9th ave. There are also condo units in the same building. 12 floors I believe. Their Development Permit Application went in a few weeks ago. Should be nice. Calgary is really stepping up to a whole different level now.

I'll say one thing. Your downtown has always made ours look like crap.
Ours is downright pathetic. No life whatsoever.
especially after you go to Vacouver or TO.

The great thing about the development of downtown now is that it is not only office buildings that are being built. Primarily the residential boom in places like the Beltline are really going to liven up things up. Each of the new buildings has retail at the street level as well, which will make it a lot more livable and attractive. I worked with the Community association as a student planner in the Beltline over the summer. I did an inventory of proposed residential projects and found that there were over 8000 condo units in some stage of development from design to under construction! That's only one neighbourhood.
There's also lots of institutional stuff like the new central library and the Urban Campus to get excited about as well. Calgary is going to be a very different place in 10 years. Much more urban, much more cosmopolitan.

I just can't believe how expensive things have gotten the past few years.
If you want a high end home in edmonton now, you're literally paying a minumum of 800 000.
I got rid of my house in two days selling it for that price. I made a profit, it it all went straight into another house.
I used to live in the North end of Edmonton here and houses are getting to be that much.

I was there about 3 weeks ago. WOW what a great city, I really didn't have high expectations but it's a helluva town. You guys really know how to have fun in Austin. I hope it doesn't chnage.

very nice. IMO they should knock down the calgary tower because its getting more and more hidden. Build something else or build another verrsion of it, more modern and of course 2-3 times more taller.

Le Germain is coming to Cgy?!?! Great, it's my favorite hotel chain in Canada.
Someone who is on the planning team of of the new large towers told me about Ritz Carlton ... just north of The Bay on 7th ave.
