7 X 7.375 would be my guess.

Based on what I heard originally, yes. My interpretation of the gap was that. It was large, and primarily over term. However I never claimed that I was told he may have played his last game. That, was my opinion.
But things obviously change. I still have my doubts this will be a long-term deal, as I have no clue on term or price. But my optimistic side believes both sides have come to their senses, and it will be 7-8 years. However if Johnnys side is stuck on a short term deal, the Flames are gonna have to sign him for a short term deal regardless. Joe Blow fan will only care about him being in a Flames jersey for the immediate future, and the team will look terrible if he isn't in one for game 1. The majority of fans aren't rabidly analyzing this thing like we are.
Look all I did was pass on stuff I heard.
I still say 7 x 7.5 because I think everyone wins there. Johnny gets a huge payday. The team locks him up for his prime, fans get to chant his name until 2023.
But a 2-3 year deal. Wouldn't shock me. And if that's the time the team needs to buy I believe they buy it, to get their house in order for 2019.
I have heard nothing more since the '48 hour' tidbit. So I'm hoping MattyC has this thing locked down.

I'll go with 7 x 7.25M.
I've been just reading in the background the past few weeks and want this to be over.

And 6 is great. It's a long freakin time and takes him through most of his prime. Sure it only buys 1 UFA year but the fact that it's 5 RFA years instead of the traditional 4 kinda skews that. As does the fact that he's already 23.
6 x $6.75M

6 years is a good long time, but it would suck watching him walk away at 28/29. If it does end up 6x6.75 I'm going to be pretty upset if the Gio cap essentially kept us from getting him for max term.

Yeah, I've definitely come around to thinking 6 years makes sense. 6 years for ~42M is my guess.

It definitely makes sense to Gaudreau from an earnings maximization perspective. If cap inflation remains in line with recent history and Johnny only maintains his current level of play and production, he'll likely be signing a UFA contract worth 11 - 12 + million a year.
If the deal is ~42 million over the next 6 years that means he could earn up to 66 million over the next eight. That averages out to 8.25 million per year which was more than anything he was going to get from Calgary and in line with his asked. That number could get even higher if he continues to improve.
I believe a six-year deal would imply that Calgary is really targeting the next 3 to 6 years as their cup window and feel the extra million dollars a year in cap space over the next six years is more valuable than two extra years of Johnny. If that cap space gets used in an efficient and effective manner over that period I won't be too upset. But if it ends up getting wasted on mediocre role players and dead cap space that will be upsetting.

Yeah, it's definitely a favourable term for Gaudreau. I admit I'm not giving the Flames much here, and there is a real possibility Gaudreau goes elsewhere after 6 years. Or doesn't. I think if the Flames are a powerhouse at that point, Gaudreau will stay, but if we've been mired in mediocrity, it could be in both player and team's best interests to separate when Gaudreau gets his UFA worth.
I even like it from the Flames' perspective because it's tough to build around superstar wingers in this day and age, so if it's not working, we can move on.

Both sides have said over and over again publicly that they're not interested in a bridge deal.
