We'll see in 48 hours. My initial guess was it would get done by the final preseason game. This process has already disappointed me a dozen or so times..what's once or twice more?

I'm gonna say 6.7499m x 8 years
year 1: 4.5
year 2-5: 6
year 6-8: 8.5
AAV=6.75

My evaluation of whether this is a great contract is if it is under $6.75
It is a good contract is if the AAV is between 6.75 and $6.85
If it is between 6.85 and 7.1 i'd say that's expected.
If it is 7.2 to 7.4, my thought is that it isn't great.
7.4 and over and i'd say the Flames should have pushed on their leverage more.

Treliving would get a solid F grade if he let Johnny miss camp only to cave in and let him have $7.4 million or more. Nothing worse than disrupting your camp and early regular season by not having your best player available then caving into a deal that could have been signed before camp. The longer this goes the less chance Johnny is going to cash in.

I originally assumed he was banned, but you are correct.
He had 14 posts in this thread yesterday prior to the latest announcement, and then he gave 1 level headed post about it today.
He's officially stopped freaking out, which is great news for everyone.

1) Takes the team out for an expensive dinner
2) Makes a mountain of Compliments Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, throws grilled cheese party for team
3) Makes a mountain of Kraft Singles Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, throws grilled cheese party for team
4) Blows a solid mil on skittles and mountain dew
5) Fires his agent
6) Gets a new pair of lifts for his shoes
7) Large Purchase of high fructose corn syrup producer stocks
8) Hires scientists and funds a R&D campaign to make fruit and vegetables taste like Nutella
9) Shows that he has 'changed'; eats a salad; dies
Mod's can we get a poll? The value this post brings to this discussion is on par with 99% of the rest of the posts in this thread so it shouldn't be a big deal, right?

This is a little OT, but as this is presently the only dedicated Gaudreau thread I thought I would also post this here:

|
Gaudreau's struggles on the road last season are well documented, and most seem to be of the opinion that he was physically overmatched by the home team's effective usage of last change. Gaudreauvertime has argued the other side: that his very low shooting percentage shows he was simply unlucky away from the Saddledome. I am of the opinion that the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and draw some encouragement from Gaudreau's much more balanced home/road splits from the 2014-15 season.
All of that to point out that there is now a small bit of new data from which to draw in this discussion: while all WCH games were played in Toronto, there was always an assigned home team. I am curious to know if anyone has gone though Gaudreau's "road production" in this tournament as a means to provide a wider context to the debate?

How about "Fataovertime" instead? Mods, what can we do about this?

Gaudreau's chances and shots in goal were quite similar between home/road. What was really, really different was his shooting percentage and the team while he was on the ice being over 10% different. I think most of the reason was very poor luck on the road and good luck at home. Certainly matchups played some role, but are we thinking his matchups were vastly different when he was on the top line in his rookie year and didn't have such a disparity?

Naah, haven't done that since my days working in the energy industry.
I'm hopeful a deal gets hammered out here. In the end, Johnny might love the game and playing for Calgary too much to sit out. Unfortunately, management has decided to use his love of the game against him, which I'm not a huge fan of. It might get a player at a slightly less AAV (for probably sub optimal term) but you might end up with a player who feels slighted or that he's not valued.
Like I've said before, I'm just hoping this Gio cap nonsense doesn't keep us from getting a 7 or 8 year deal. Less than that would be pretty tough to swallow.

Funny how you take a player everyone likes, add a poster advocating for him, and the end result is just finding a way to annoy everyone.
Probably the Flames camp unleashed him to create a sentiment closer to backlash.
