Or we were saved from an environmental debacle and can focus on something sustainable. We'll see how it plays out eventually.

Who is this we and what resources are we saving now to divert to sustainable things? This was a private industry project. Petronas isn't going to start a wind farm in BC just because they think lng isn't going to work.
it'snot like the government fronted the 12 billion that we can invest elsewhere.

You will have to walk me through how the LNG gas plant is an environmental debacle?

Just think of the orcas swimming through all of those LNG slicks from the leaks and spills!
And the little duckies that can't fly anymore because their wings are coated in LNG!

The only two issues that I have read about are
An increase in gh emissions by 7 percent in BC and .5 Canada wide
The other is were the dock is supposed to be built below is a salmon spawning area.

The Salmon spawning issue should be addressed in the design with fish diversion channels. I'm going to be lazy and assume that fish management is in the design already and certainly in the 190 recommendations based on what I have seen in other projects proposed.
And low cost gas displaces low cost coal as a fuel source so that should be a reduction in global green house emissions.

Perhaps the best way to secure salmon populations would be to reduce systemic over fishing.

Notley asks for a pipeline in exchange for a pipeline (while implementing carbon pricing anyways).
Quote:
In a statement, Notley said that "in principle," Alberta supports a national price in that it "ensures that we are all making the same effort, and it ensures that no one is penalized economically."
But Alberta, which introduced its sweeping climate strategy in part to win public support for new oilsands pipelines, can't give its support to the federal plan now, she said.
"Alberta will not be supporting this proposal absent serious concurrent progress on energy infrastructure, to ensure we have the economic means to fund these policies," said Notley.

What would the world decrease/increase of GHG be. Canada is probably the one of the most environmental producer in the world. Therefore the more we produce and displace the worst of the producers the better for the world environment. GHG is a global issue not a country issue. So if one country increases GHG to lower the worlds overall than it is still environmental to do.

I kinda like Brad Wall, he's certainly taken on the mantle of Western Canada's energy spokesman.

It increases GHG emissions.
The whole hydrocarbon energy industry as it is currently constituted is an ongoing and potentially fatal debacle.

So it's displacement of coal as a fuel source is negative?

I believe the idea is to go straight from coal to renewable. Steps in the right direction are considered bad because someone might decide to stop walking after the first step.
It is really an all or nothing argument that seems to me will result in greater CO2 emissions than embracing smaller steps.

Had an idea!

Plus, there is no way we can burn NG a lot cleaner than how we do now, so we should discourage all investment into the industry.

For discussion.
How do we start changing the discussion to what is in the best interests of Canadians in the long term?
Pretty clear at this point that as a country we are being played for fools.

We need Statesmen(women) not politicians. People who are willing to make the right decision, rather than the popular decision, regardless of if it leads to re-election or not.
