IIRC that's how the Wings made the Lidstrom cap work with Zetterberg.

The thumbnail of this thread is a picture for the Tobias Rieder signing. I feel like that sums up how this thread has been going pretty well.

Is that smart though from Gaudreau's standpoint? Who knows if there's going to be another lockout by then. If were Johnny, I'd want all my money as front loaded as possible. So as much bonuses as possible for the front half of the contract.

Actual info today, multiple sources (including Pylon) saying it'll be done in the next 48 hours.
This is me now:

This is just me speculating, as I really have no clue on where it will ultimately wash out, but I personally believe it will be $7.5 mil/7 years. And I think it's the right number, and potentially a bargain a few years from now.

I think 7.5m is out of reach, even on a 8 year deal. 7.25m max when accounting for Tarasenko/Ekblad comparables but factoring in 5 RFA years vs 4.

I honestly think it's going to be closer to 7x7. I really hope/think Treliving is stern in what he wants/feels is right. If he was ok with 7.5, it would have been done a month ago IMO.

I doubt it happens today. Usually you'd get the "imminent" rumors swirling around.
I'd guess Thursday or Friday. I REALLY hope I'm wrong.

If this franchise is being run on a Gio cap system, we have bigger problems than Johnny making too high an AAV.

I know it, and my expectation is a Friday 10:00 am Presser with the wrinkled backdrop to announce Johnny's 8 year 7.175 AAV contract.
That being said, the fact something is happening (as evidenced by the multiple sources) makes me extra hungry for more news. Kind of like giving a starving man a ritz and now he's just whet his appetite and needs the steak

I'm willing to bet the loose rumors start up tomorrow morning/mid day, then legit sources get louder tomorrow night and we see a deal confirmed on Thursday with a press conference on Friday.

They could totally do it like the Oilers.
3:30 Friday afternoon of a long-weekend.
"Hi....thanks for coming...we've signed Johnny for $9.5M/year for 8 years. G'bye and have a nice long weekend!"
Tuesday: Come to work like nothing happened.

I mean there is a chance they could be trying to get him into the last two games?

New coach so he needs to be at camp to learn the systems. He is already behind as is.
