USA Today Kevin Allen 2016-17 NHL Point Projections
Flames finishing second in the Pacific, next to the Sharks with 99 points. Credits improved goaltending and further maturing of the most improved team in the league.

Do the Ducks take that big of a step back though?
I could see the Flames beating out the Kings. Not easily, but I could see it. I'm not sure they'd be able to pass the Ducks or Sharks though.

Both the Flames and Panthers around the 100 point mark? Sounds great! Not gonna happen.
I'd be happy with 93-95 points.

Some other interesting points to his prediction. Looks like the Pacific beats the crap out of the Oilers and Canucks (seems about right), Red Wings miss the playoffs and end their streak.

Ya seems a bit too optimistic to me, but I still hope they're right.

ESPN Flames preview:
http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/1...calgary-flames
Propelled by improved goaltending, the Flames will return to the playoffs by securing a wild-card spot. If, however, the Gaudreau holdout works itself into the regular season, all bets are off.

Ducks are a wild card. They could pick up where they left off with Boudreau or they could take a step back under Carlyle. Kings are treading water and the Sharks may have peaked last season. It's pretty wide open but I don't know if the Flames are a 99 point team.

The Sharks are not as good as their record and playoff performance last year. They will fall back.

a much worse flames team managed 97 points a couple years back...with losing 8 in a row
surely is possible
even last year with all the problems better goal tending would have had them much higher

Finally someone not buying into the Oiler's hype!!
Whoa. Canucks will be bad...but 12 points worse than the Oilers and last place in the entire NHL by 6 points would be a dream come true! LOL.

a year ago everyone thought the Sharks were bums...now they can't be stopped. funny how things change...and I agree, the days that the Cali teams are untouchable are over, those teams are gonna grind it out with the rest of them

Canucks and Leafs at the bottom of the standings. I love it! The only thing better would be if the Oilers were down there with them.
