I'll say this , I know some posters ( few) didn't like the Brouwer signing but flames had no other choice. I'm' not convinced that we will even have a top 6 RW from our current farm ready by the time Brouwers contract runs out.
I think he is the best choice given what is available, at the moment anyway. Ideally Ferland would take a leap forward but it's hard to say what he will do. Ferland wouldn't even have to score a ton, just play smart positional hockey, don't hold on to the puck for too long, go to the net, and forecheck like a maniac.

Chaisson intrigues me too but honestly I'm not sure if I've ever watched him play. Or if I have, I can't remember him good or bad.

I would like Chiasson to have a shot. No-one has yet had the chance to play with Monahan and Gaudreau. None of us know who will have the right chemistry yet.

Ferland or Hamilton on the first line would be a nightmare. Ferland is a great piece for the 3rd or 4th line, but on the top 2 lines, he would quickly become a whipping boy. Reminds me of back in the dark ages when we tried to wedge Chris Clark up there.

Default Gaudreau - Monahan - ?

No RW candidate has stood out (assuming Brouwer and Frolik are off the table), Monahan hasn't played and we're not sure how healthy he is, Gaudreau is holding out.... this line is going to be a mess for a while and will likely hurt the start

If Sheary can play with Crosby, I have no doubt Ferland could play with Gaudreau. There's never going to be enough cap space to give Gaudreau two linemates truly worthy of his talent, but that doesn't mean that a great 1st line can't be constructed with one lesser piece on it. That's just a reality of today's capped NHL.

This is probably the most important part of this discussion. Neither Monahan, nor Gaudreau, have been on the ice yet, let alone shown any chemistry with anyone. This is all purely hypothetical at this point. The only guys I can think of that had any time with them last year were Ferland and Shinkaruk, and both samples were very, very small in size.

Jankowski as a mid season call up
Plays a solid two way game who could then take some of the defensive responsibilities from Monahan, freeing him for more offensive opportunities

Shinkaruk hasn't really been too impressive in pre-season but I think he should take Gaudreau's spot with Monahan until he's signed. When Gaudreau returns you can put Shinkaruk on Bennett's line if Tkachuk is sent down.

I would LOVE if Poirier could take that spot, but he pretty much plateaued in his second year in the AHL. Anyone know how he's looked in camp? I believe he played in Sunday's preseason game but haven't heard much if anything to suggest he's knocking on the door anytime soon...

Right now the top three RWers are Brouwer, Frolik and Ferland. Since it looks like they want Brouwer with Bennett and Frolik with Backlund, that leaves Ferland with Monahan.

Brouwer will be on the first line by the end of the season though.
In a heartbeat, man. No questions asked. Please make this happen, please!

I saw 5 minutes in which he looked OK (granted, it was mostly Flames PP). Then it went to 3-0 and I wondered why I was using data to watch Flames preseason on my Ipad.

, has been quietly having a good preseason with the Avs. 2GP 1G 3A and a +/- of +2. There is just something about ex Flames that makes me want to bring them back, but then I remember how happy I was to get rid of them.

while we're at it, can we see what Yelle is upto, could be a better option than stajan on that 4th line, and help with the PK issues the team has struggled with

Kind of reminds me of Sutter's 20 goal scorers fetish. In that lineup everyone except Bennett(18G), Stajan(16G in 55gp), Bouma, and Ferland managed to accomplish just that at some point

To be fair, Shiinkaruk has made a couple really great plays in the pre-season which his linemates weren't able to capitalize on. I recall Stajan missing a wide open net from an amazing cross crease pass by Shinkaruk.

He's played a bit with them already and if he's smart would have watched a lot of tape this off season to learn their tendencies. I'm eager to see what he can do, you'd have to think GG will give him an opportunity.

They just had to be on pace for 20 at some point. It still counts. So you could count Stajan as one, and Bennett because of all the called back goals that were incompetently ruled.

So many..

That's why he wasn't (and wouldn't be) half bad with Monahan and Gaudreau. They can capitalize on those. He probably has the best offensive instincts of all the options available - if they're keeping Brouwer with Bennett. That's why I think he'd be a fine half season stop gap..at least until Pribyl or someone else works their way in, or perhaps a trade deadline rental is brought in.

As long as we're trading with the Avs:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Iginla
Bourque - Bennett - Brouwer
Colborne - Backlund - Frolik
Comeau - Street - Ferland

Dunno if we have room for Elson
