That sounds completely unsubstantiated and by someone who would have no inside knowledge. How does one find something like that and think "if that's true, that's no good"?
The paranoia associated with this is reaching new heights.

I think he's just someone who wants to play on our fears by tweaking our noses.
One thing I'm getting to realize is that my opinion of Johnny is losing some of it's luster.

Jon Lyons is the guy that asked the "insider" the question.

Basically Kevin Paul Dupont tweeted this.

I'm sure this won't get anyone riled up. Kevin Paul DuPont is a pretty legitimate source in New England.
|
Then someone asked Kevin Paul DuPont this...
Quote:
Jon Lyons @TheRealJonLyons
@GlobeKPD as in when his contract is up or in the near future via trade?
|
And Kevin Paul Dupont responded with this...
Quote:

Hamilton-like exit.

If all we get for Johnny is 3 picks, not even at draft time, with no knowledge of draft placement, this place/city will melt down. To even compare the two is ridiculous. If he's going to Philly the convo starts with Giroux ++, johnnys that kind of player. Boston has nothing attractive.
I just can't see it, especially after his agent said Johnny doesn't want a trade, and wants to be part of Calgary long term.
Honestly this deal just needs to happen so we can stop freaking out, but these 'heard from a friend' rumours are the friggen worst, regardless of the sources reporting it. Bush league from KDP IMO.

Basically what I'm getting at is id rather just have Gaudreau, and we have all the power in terms of being able to hang on to him. Here's hoping he just signs.

Sam Reinhart, Alex Nylander and a 1st from Buffalo is a good starting ask.

I wonder if the radio silence from Calgary is Treliving shopping him just to see what he's got. That would actually make a lot of sense, could increase Calgary's leverage if Johnny really wants to be here.

Or you know, they are waiting for him to come down from the 8 million.

Brad Treliving shops all his players around just for something to do.

That would also make sense, but it's been mentioned earlier. But in terms of trading, I had always thought we'd see the request come from Gaudreau's camp, but never thought of it as a negotiation chip for Calgary.
"Don't want 6.5M? Fine, we'll send you to Winnipeg for Trouba and Ehlers"

No im pretty sure Gaudreau is better than any package you get so I highly doubt the Flames explore that until it's forced upon them.

Let's not start pretending that this narrative has actually anything to it apart from wild speculation.

I tend to agree with you, but I'm not sure if everyone else does, including Treliving. Johnny would objectively land a package like we haven't seen in some time.
Schenn + Provorov + 1st would be pretty tempting.

Do it
I say pull the trigger on a trade if you can get lots. Hey, if he really wanted to be here that badly, he would have signed by now. Pull the trigger! He can watch the Flames become a powerhouse from NJ or wherever.

That package is definitely tempting, but IF Gaudreau gets traded, that team will need upwards of 7-8 million in cap space to sign him. So a team like Philly would likely need to send back more salary than Schenn's new deal. Any deal involving Gaudreau would likely involve a big ticket contract coming back

The Flames have publicly stated that they want Johnny in Calgary. Lewis Gross has publicly stated Johnny wants to stay in Calgary. Those are the facts.
Any speculation that Johnny wants a trade or that Brad is secretly shopping him is exactly that... speculation.
Only CP could read a sentence that says:
Quote:
"We have no intention of asking for a trade at this time,” he replied. “He wants to stay in Calgary."
|
And freak out over the "at this time" part.
Of course Gross is going to say "at this time", because he hasn't ruled that out as a possibility down the road if nothing happens. If it's January and they still don't have a contract, maybe they start looking at trade options. But "at this time" everyone still wants Johnny to be in Calgary.

He might, do you really think contract negotiation is that unique? I bet there are multiple posters here who do it! Some may even be reading the thread right now!
