He may not be a star goalie, but can you truly blame Pavelec? All the Jets do is take penalties and they don't do a good job keeping the chances to the outside when they do kill them.

I just took a look, over the last five years, Ondrej Pavalec has the highest 4-on-5 "expected goals against" (159.29 expected goals against) in the NHL. In 43 less games played than the second highest - Jonathan Quick at (157.50 expected goals against). There's not a lot goalies can do to influence this stat other than be great puck movers and have great rebound control, but even then the difference between first and second place shouldn't be that blatant. In 43 more games Quick still wouldn't be expected to give up as many goals against as Pavelec if they had the same ability level.

When you are that exposed to bad chances in endless penalty kill situations, you pretty much have to be elite at the position to simply tread water.

Old Boys Club. Treliving had Korpikoski in Phoenix.

Also has Stajan played every game?
Yes it was quite impressive seeing him hold down the fort in Edmonton on split squad night, while being our #1 PP center in Calgary the same night.

I may be the only one but I wouldn't mind Korpikoski as a depth forward if he can get going and have a better showing in the next few games. I think he really suits Backlund and Frolik as a linemate when he is on his game. Great skater, 2 way game, good possession player, thinks the game at a good level. He probably wont score 19 goals or put up 40 points like he did for the coyotes but he would be utilized in a defensive shutdown role and could apply pressure.

Maybe its just because I watched his hat trick game vs the Rangers last season

I also dont want us to put one of the young wingers on the Backlund Frolik line. I think it would really be the most difficult line to play on as a young offensive minded winger. You could argue it would develop their defensive game but personally if I was Tkachuk or Shinkaruk I would be a bit disappointed to be getting almost all the defensive zone starts and against the other teams top lines. Its the opposite of sheltering a player.

SN isn't covering the game as part of its national coverage or Flames regional coverage. TSN is covering the game as part of its Jets regional coverage.

That's funny that it's in Calgary, yet televised on the Jets regional broadcast.

Better be available here otherwise what a joke..

Can stream it, but would much rather watch on the TV.

Higgins too, while they're at it. PK ability doesn't make him an all around useful player any more. I'm guessing they're trying Chiasson on that second line in anticipation of possibly having to put Brouwer up on the #1RW, and seeing how that combination would fare if they did. Chiasson (and every RW aside from Brouwer and Frolik - though you can't separate the shutdown pairing) would be overmatched on the top line over a full season and unfortunately none of the other options are really sticking out in any way..(hopefully Pribyl is playing soon)

The best solution is to separate Frolik from Backlund.

Korpikoski might actually be a good fit with Backlund and Frolik. Will wait to see how that pans out tonight before wishing for the Flames to Jettison him.

Also on 902 on TSN3, just spoke with Telus and they said the game should be watchable in Calgary on this channel.
