I think he'd rather play in Trudeau's Canada and more specifically in Notley's Alberta. Johnny politics.

He wants to be closer to home. Russias pretty close right? This is getting ridiculous. Some of these theories and ideas are bonkers. I'm sure the flames wouldn't call his bluff on fleeing to Russia

You don't believe him signing a contract elsewhere would influence negotiations? It's leverage.

No. Actually I don't. That's a horrifically simplistic way of approaching this negotiation, and if you are Lewis gross, it is no wonder you are getting your ass kicked.
It is not leverage if you are 100% certain it's not going to happen, therefore it's not an option, and if treated as leverage, will actually work as leverage the other way. IT IS NON SENSE

Lol. I only gave it that high of a probability since it is an option that exists.
Like, if I wanted a million dollars, technically I can go into a bank, walk pass the tellers and into the safe, open the safe, pack all the money into a bag, walk out, tip my hat to the guard on duty, pack my car, and drive off into the sunset.

It's leverage for an unrealistic option, which both camps know is unrealistic. To pack your things, move across the world, live in a foreign country, all while leaving the worlds best league where you're an elite player in for an additional, what 10-15% salary?
It's just an option that no one would consider. He'd be better off holding out and staying here to do endorsements and media events to make up that money.

Lol. Of course there is a real possibility he has or will ask for a trade, or that he will go to play elsewhere. Everyone here that has posted dismissing it in fact knows it, otherwise it wouldnt even garner a response.
Odds are probably over 50% that he signs here very soon, though its in the realm of possibilities that something else happens.

You are the only one on this entire board who thinks there's more than a very slim chance he's getting traded. I have yet to see you present any logical evidence as to why you have this view.

If Johnny doesn't sign, until the last possible date of December 1st, he would lose up to $1.75m, based upon a yearly pro-rated contract of $7.5m.
On a 7/8 yr term, would be worth $200k to $250k/year. That is a material amount, yet is still smaller than the perceived existing delta between each side.

That's quite a leap. So the only reason people would point out erroneous opinions is because secretly they know they're true? Sure, he could ask for a trade, but I challenge anyone to make a sensible case for going to Europe.

Staying here and doing endorsement deals doesn't achieve the main objective though, which is to apply pressure to the Flames.
It really depends on the willingness and resolve of both parties though. if Johnny is unwilling to follow though, it is indeed an empty threat.

Wow. Johnny isnt going anywhere. We're signing him, the question is for how much. Its being dismissed because it would not only be insane but result in a terrible series of events for Calgary. First the players would be angry, especially Monny and Gio. Then the fans would protest. Then the front office would be fired. Then the entire city would go on strike and refuse to work until Johnny is returned. Then the stampede would be cancelled next year. Plus the bow river would have its worst flood of ever.
I'm sure Brad Treliving has thought about all this. He knows what would happen if he lets Gaudreau go.
