[QUOTE=monkeyman;5929597]If what were hearing is true, and i have no reason to believe Gross would be lying, I'd probably hold out too if i was Johnny. If i were him, i'd sign a contract in Russia or Europe(with an out). Just as a screw you to BT and the Flames.[/Q
You're damn straight , Lewis isn't lying about anything . BT , BB , and the Flames organization ... take a flying leap into next year , But I hope they do awesome without Gaudreau .

Meh Johnny and the agent cutting of contract talks during the WC to try to force treliving into a deal seems just as unprofessional. Probably ticked him off a little and now is making the agent squirm a bit

Since BT has been our GM he has established a reputation as the hardest working, most active-on-the-phones GM in the world.
Forgive me if Gross' comments come across as pure gamesmanship.

Really hope the Flames arent being too aggressive in the negotiations. I think Johnny signs in the next week for 7.5x8. We arent the golden state warriors - why should he take less to be apart of the Flames. In my opinion the other players should take a pay cut to keep Gaudreau around, not the opposite. He is basically our offense and may be the most uniquely talented player in the entire league.
Maybe I just rate him higher than most people but I think even 7.5 would be modest of him. He is justified in asking for 8 over a long contract. We've seen what he has done in 2 seasons and the cap is going to go up over those 8 years.
I dont understand the idea that Gaudreau is being greedy or the agent is trying to push him to get the most he possibly can (no ####). The kid deserves a huge contract. If he wants to give us a discount then awesome. If not, hes totally within his rights to request a contract he feels reflects what hes done in his first 2 seasons. Maybe if we didnt have management giving out contracts like Stajan, Wideman, Engelland, Bollig, Raymond, Smid then we wouldn't be stalling on signing our best player over what is probably < 1million per season.
For me the worst thing that can happen here is leaving a bad taste in the mouth of our superstar player. There is no way Gaudreau should be earning in the 6s or 7s if we're being honest. He's an 8+million dollar player.
Im conflicted because I love the flames and want us to get a steal of a contract but I also think he is totally right to ask for 8. If I was him I would hold out. Even though it would piss me off as a Flames fan, I would understand.

Lol #### this agent. Takes the hard line childish approach of refusing to talk during the World Cup and now he's whining like a bitch to the media because they're not talking.
#### him and his commission.

It's not like he'd be getting $8 million contract offers from Europe. The money he'd give up to play a year in Europe would dwarf whatever amounts they're arguing over now.
Also, if he went to play in Europe, he wouldn't gain any NHL experience, so nothing would change with regards to his contract status, and they'd be back where they are now next year.

I still believe the deal gets done. I care about the Flames not just one player, if him and his agent want crazy money they won't be getting it.

Well yeah it's going to get done but Gaudreau really should be in camp getting comfortable with the new coaching staff but his agent is going to put him in a situation where he's going to come into the season cold and a lot of the time these players get injured or get off to slow starts. Flames clearly aren't going to play Gross's game so he's just going to end up costing Johnny some game pay cheques and end up accepting a deal he could have accepted earlier.

That's pretty short sighted. this isn't about the money he'd lose missing a few games this season and I honestly don't think the Flames would be comfortable letting this go an entire season, or longer. something would give.
What do you think the reaction would be from fans if the headline in tomorrow's paper was "Gaudreau signs in Russia"? you don't think that'd put extra pressure on the Flames?
It's also naive to believe because Johnny didn't want to discuss contract status during the WCH that his agent wasn't available/willing.

Gaudreau signs $7M/year for 6 years - $42 million
He signs $7.5M/year for 6 years but misses 33 games of this season - $42 million
This won't drag out long, there's a point where Gaudreau actually starts to lose money if he sits long enough. I bet he signs in time to play in Wednesday's pre-season game.

So you think Johnny Gaudreau would rather play in Vladimir Putin's Russia than Calgary over less than half a million dollars a year.
Okay.

didn't the whole argument surround Tarasenko and not using him as a comparison revolve around Tarasenko's ability to play in Russia? do you honestly believe him signing elsewhere wouldn't have an affect negotiations?
