Icon56 Oct 2, 2016 - Jets @ Flames (7pm MT) | SN960 / TSN3 (Jets Region)

The Jets visit the Saddledome tonight for the Flames' fifth of seven preseason games. The game will be televised as a Jets regional broadcast, so it should be available on one of the Centre Ice channels like Tuesday's game in Winnipeg was.

Laine will be in the lineup for Winnipeg. Backlund and Frolik are expected to make their preseason debuts for the Flames.

Chad Johnson will start the game between the pipes, and Jon Gillies may see some action later in the game.

Here's the Jets lineup:

The Flames roster should be released later this morning.

This should be available once again on the Centre Ice free preview. It's even listed om Shaw's guide this time! Channel 353.

The game day skate is underway at the Dome, so we should be seeing some tweets from the gathered media about the expected roster.

Monahan is skating with the group in a non-contact jersey. If he follows the same pattern as Backlund, that should lead to him playing on Wednesday.

So that means no Telus option and I have to watch a damn stream again.

I hate TSN and their regional restrictions. Who care's if it's a Winnipeg broadcast, the Flames are in the game! If you're too cheap to do a Flames broadcast then at least lift the restriction.

TSN and SN only have regional rights for a portion of their games. Regional games are only broadcast in specific regions because that's legally the only place they can be broadcast under the contract.

Lines from practice...

Pat Steinberg ‏@Fan960Steinberg

Projected #Flames lines: Korpikoski-Backlund-Frolik; Bouma-Stajan-Vey; Tkachuk-Bennett-Chiasson; Bollig-F. Hamilton-Poirier

#Flames on D look like: Brodie-Wideman; Jokipakka-Kulak; Grossmann-Grigorev
Tkachuk and Bennett stick together, but Brouwer gets the night off.

Their must be a way to do a joint broadcast, because as I said with both teams playing there is no reason for a regional restriction.

If there is really no way around the regional restriction in their contract than why not have a Flames broadcast as well? Or why not take turns with it? The 2 games broadcast on TSN so far were regional restrictions for the Flames.

Wotherspoon had a good game against the Canucks. Now it's time for Kulak to show he's the better option. IMO, the last D spot comes down to those two. I like this little internal competition.

This is going to be a big game for some Flames players.

- Can Korpikoski gel with the shutdown pairing? If not he's gone.
- Can Vey be a solid depth option in a 4th line role? Probably AHL bound regardless.
- Can Chiasson elevate his game and fit in with some more skilled linemates? No Johnny or Monny to play with so these are the next best audition mates.
- Is Bollig going to be the fittest bench warmer in the NHL or actually get into some games this year?
- Is Poirier at least a 4th line caliber player who can provide energy since he's unable to do much offensively in the NHL? Probably AHL bound regardless.
- Will Chad Johnson continue to pee in Elliott's cornflakes forcing his way into a 1B situation instead of just B?

Edit: And Pierre I honestly thought Kulak already did that in the last Winnipeg game. Downright Brodie-like and then 2 goals on top against an overmatched line-up.

Two years ago TODAY (weird eh?) The Flames hosted the final preseason game against the Jets. The Flames won And my two cousins whom I went to the game with played sumo hockey (they are in the red sumo outfits:

I predict a Flames win as we all know history repeats it's self.

Freddie with his fourth game of the preseason. He's certainly getting the chance to earn a spot.

And where is Bollig going to see most of his icetime this year? Calgary or Stockton?

Probably Calgary. He's a good bench warmer and isn't going to relieve much cap by being sent to the AHL. Also a good option to get into some games where the other team is throwing some size at us. And against the Oilers for hilarious reasons.
