One holdup in this contract may be the 2020-21 structure.

If there is a lockout that season, Monahan risks losing upwards of 2.5 million dollars. However he will still be paid 3.5 million dollars in signing bonus before the season.

Giordano on the other hand, risks losing upwards of his entire salary of 6.75 million dollars. I'm sure that was significant leverage in getting an extra year of term.

One thing about Tarasenko's contract, is there is no (knowledge of a) signing bonus on it. If there is a lockout Tarasenko simply won't get paid. However despite this, his pay in that season of 5 million dolalrs is well below his pay in the season prior (9.5) and the season following (9.5). He might have an AAV of 8 million over that three year span, but he is partially lockout protected.

In pretty much every contract signed extending through 2020-21, lockout protection seems to be a key factor in negotiations. I wonder if that's a significant reason for the delays with Kucherov, Ristolainen, Lindholm, Rakell, and Gaudreau. Not cap, but actual salary.

With the season starting on the 12th, then that would mean missing only three games, but surrendering 1/13 of his annual salary for the year on his next contract.

You would still be paid for all days worked once the contract is signed. Regardless of pay days.

LOL

That's EXACTLY what he is. The gap between Gaudreau and both Bennett and Brouwer is very large. People are vastly overestimating how far along Bennett is in his development just to fit this stupid and weird narrative that has emerged on this site since we learned that this won't be a smooth negotiation. Bennett AND Brouwer didn't break 40 points last year, Brouwer is terrible for possession, Bennett is wildly inconsistent and I'm not sold that Monahan can quite carry a line by himself.

Bennett-Monahan-Brouwer would be the worst 1st line in the league unless Bennett explodes this year.

It's so funny how off the deep end this site is when it comes to supporting whatever narrative fits with the direction the team takes.

We should dust off the old joke from we signed Johnny out of College where Conroy stands in line for an autograph wearing a ball cap and fake glasses but hes actually holding a contract.

"Thanks Johnny!!"

So the root of my asking when their pay period starts, is so we can identify an opportunity cost/benefit hardline.

Still a bit fuzzy on the first working day of their first bi-monthly pay period. I'm also alot lazy to formulate that.

There is no benefit.

His contract is essentially the yearly salary/days worked. So it doesn't matter when pay periods are. His contract will be prorated to the day he signs and starts working.

If he misses 15 days. He only misses 15 days of pay regardless of pay periods and dates.

Edit: Unless you mean when he actually starts losing money. Then ya ok I misunderstood.

You misunderstood what I read. I'm looking to identify WHEN that pay period starts, ie his first working day of his work year. Pro-rating it, is exactly what I'm insuating.

I see your edit. All good.

9 posts a day doesn't seem like very much, I'm sure there are a lot of posters who post with that frequency . . . many in this very thread.
