Rivals, shmivals. You need to trade with Benning (and Chiarelli) as often as possible, and I think Treliving is just smart enough to have realized this...

Treliving should make a quick trade for Barclay Goodrow, then give Benning a call.

No doubt. But King is allowed to be a bit biased.

When you negotiate with a strategic partner, you don't need to 'win' the negotiation to 'win' the partnership. You're not buying a car, low ball offers are not constructive, especially when you have said partner over a barrel. You want your partner to feel the terms of the deal are reflective of his value in the relationship and to feel motivated to continuing delivering value to the relationship. The last thing you want to do is short change him. That's the moment when relationships move from strategic to tactical, and even adversarial.
|
This deal doesn't exist in a vacuum. If it did then the Flames could look at a partnership with Gaudreau and factor in a myriad of things to justify paying him more.
They have to use every angle they can to keep the team competitive by getting key players signed at the lowest AAV they can.
They have to do this in an honest, forthright way that doesn't get petty and destroy relationships for sure. But ignoring the RFA structure of Gaudreau's deal doesn't make the Flames villains any more than a player that has UFA rights moving cities makes him disloyal or a bad person.
And how can you say no personal attacks when you name dropped your skill experience and hammered someone else's experience and knowledge of negotiating?

Agreed. The Flames will not be trading Gaudreau but if they do the Canucks will not even come close to having what the Flames want unless they want to offer up a ton of 1st rounders.

At what point does Johnny demand a trade. I hope it does not come to that.

If Johnny does ask for a trade, I hope the Flames don't go for any more young project players. They need proven talent to produce now and that's why Johnny is so important to the Flames.
I think there is about a 1% chance Johnny is traded though because I think they'll be announcing the signing soon.

If they're going to be paying that much for a winger, just pay Johnny.

Why would Johnny decide he wants to play in some other unknown (1 of 29) market for 5 years minimum.
I think that's Flames decision, if he doesn't want to sign at the Flames high point the flames will tell him he is done and will sit until they find a suitable return.

Hope you guys are right with that. I dont think a Trouba situation will come because one the Flames have been very supportive of Johnny from day 1. And two there were rumblings of Trouba being unhappy a year ago where Johnny has even tweeted how much he loves Calgary recently.

I totally agree and don't think it will happen - however, even after the trade request, Trouba was still talking about how much he loves Winnipeg and this has nothing to do with the city.

I disagree. While reading posts in this thread I have learned a lot about some posters on CP.
