If we decide to trade him (which, for the record, is something that I believe is100% not going to happen), people know we don't have to trade him to the Flyers, right? I see these types of trades proposed all the time, but if that was happening the offers would be coming from literally every team. We would get something much better than that.

It was just one scenario.
Ok, Johnny + Wotherspoon for Domi/Strome + Chychrun + 1st round draft choice
If we are "forced" to trade Johnny due to a stalemate in contract negotiations, it will be underwhelming

Not picking on you specifically. It's just a lot of those proposals seem to revolve around the Flyers.
I don't think it would be underwhelming. Why trade him if its for something underwhelming? He won't sit out forever.

Because when you're trading the best player in the deal, more often than not, you don't win the trade

I completely agree. That doesn't mean you have to accept underwhelming returns.
Either way. It's just not going to happen.

Heard Ken King speaking today about Gaudreau situation. Summary: - there is practically zero chance Johnny's deal is not going to get done in the next week or two;
- RFA status means that if he doesn't sign here, he is not playing anywhere else this season and Johnny does want to play here;
- Johnny was 3rd best player in NHL last season, statistically, which means the ask is respective of that;
- cannot overpay for even the best players on the team at the expense of not being able to pay market rates for other needed players;
- Confirmed that there is a sizeable gap between the ask and the offer;
- Confident that it would be resolved very soon.

Half of this list makes zero sense. There's a huge gap that is guaranteed to be closed in a week or two?

Yeah, no.
Elite players win championships. Elite players also get paid.
Simmons+Provovov+1st is also a trash return. Seriously under rating of Johnny and overrating of Simmons.
It's also disheartening to see Flames fans turn their backs on a young, elite forward over hypothetical contract terms.

So Ken King implying they wouldn't trade him? Why bring that up if you're so confident a deal will get done?
Some of the things he supposedly said are a little strange; too bad we don't have the context

Ken King is all about spreading positive PR. I think it's like his job or something.

You realize this thread is for wild speculation and silly gifs, right? How dare you post something somewhat relevant to derail it!

Just a terrible analogy.

He doesn't drive their offence because they've got Kane and Toews. Although, 30-47-77 isn't nothing; he won the Calder this year.
