IMO, is he worth $8M, no. Is he worth more than Monahan? Definitely. Comparing to Monahan, I'm thinking his value is closer to $7.1M.

There is not "plenty" of time.
That was a valid thing to say in July. It isn't several days into training camp.

I just hope Treliving and the Flames camp know full well that they're going to have to come up above 7mil if they want a long term deal.
At the end of the day you're going to have to pay a franchise (dare I say, generational?) talent like one if you want to keep him.

Assuming the information is correct, I do think that Gaudreau's ask is more realistic than the Flames if they are sticking to between $6.3 and $6.7 million on a long term deal.
$8 million is a little high, but not by much. If we could get it done for 8 years and no clauses, then they should do it IMO.

I don't see that as altogether apparent, actually.

If the Giordano cap is true then the Flames have their heads up their butts. Honestly there's no way Gaudreau signs long term for anything less than $7.1-7.5 million.

Anything over $7.5 m on an 8 year deal is too high. Gaudreau's five RFA years ensure that the cap-hit will not get to $8.0 m.

Yep. Do you really think Johnny's camp is going to move from 8 to 6.75 while the Flames stand pat? They're gonna have to break their "cap" fantasy if they want Johnny suiting up on October 12th. If they're fine with risking the chance of a slower start then sure, I guess. But is Tre gonna risk that after the three headed goalie debacle that arguably killed their season last October? That simply would not be acceptable.

Yes there is. Have till Dec 1st if Johnny wants to play hockey this year. Luv him but no one is bigger than the team and/or the team's economic future with the Cap. We are looking to build a long term winning organization.

Honestly, if I'm... any team in the league basically, I'd send him a 5x7.5 flat offer sheet. If the Flames match, whatever, nothing ventured nothing gained and Johnny's probably happy either way. If they don't match, he's well worth a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Florida, the Jets or Anaheim should be jumping on it, particularly.
|
Not to jump all over Corsi like most have, but you must be drunk if you give up arguably a top 5 forward at 23 years old for a 1st,2nd and 3rd. Im not sure give up Johnny for 4 - 1st's

Yeah.... I'm preparing for no Gaudreau to start the season.
Not happy about this. Gaudreau's side is basically trying to set precedent on 2nd contracts. If the rfa precedent gets set this high it's a bad thing for for all parties.

With fatty contracts such as Wideman's 5.25mil, Engelland's 3 and Bollig's 1.3 coming off the books as well as the cap continuing to go up, I'm sure moving half a million AAV closer to Gaudreau isn't going to break the bank on the future of the team.

If this goes to missed regular season games, I couldn't care less about Gaudreau. Trade him and move on. I hate the fact this has dragged out this long already. I feel like the Flames have a plan for the long term and the money earmarked for Gaudreau isn't as high as he is asking for. 2nd year RFA's just don't get that kind of money. Eff this stupid crap.

With all due respect Mr. Gaudreau... I'm not about to watch Calgary be held ransom. You can sit, I'm good with it.

I'm not worried about him learning the system. He's always never really played a system and just went to the best areas. You don't tell a player like Gaudreau what to do or where to go on the ice.
I know that sounds wrong but he's succeeded at every level he's been on, offensively and defensively. His hockey IQ is off the charts so have faith he will adjust to any changes systematically.

Come on man. It's posts like this that make people stay away from these threads. The season doesn't start for over two weeks. It's not the middle of November.

You obviously didn't catch the sarcasm in that comment

It's more about what they're willing to pay than what he's worth in trade. Probably no deal Johnny signs gets him over the "four firsts" threshold, even if he could sign an offer sheet. But, moot point.
Anyway, at the risk of asking something that has also been discussed ad nauseum in threads I wasn't paying attention to, why isn't Tarasenko a reasonable comparable?

I'd still give him 8x8 without blinking. Realistically, I think he'd take 7.5Mx8 and that's perfect to me. The kid is an incredible player, and I don't care much about his RFA/years in the league status.
