Agree with all of this 100%. Would add
5) rookie hitting veteran
6) veteran coming off head injury
7) new to the organization
Such a stupid play wow.

I don't get the impression anyone's blaming MacArthur - more the case of the medical staff. Though it's probably very difficult to know if someone is really ready to come back.
I hadn't broken the video down like you did, adds more information.

I felt the video wasn't good enough to make that call, but trying to look it split-second by split-second, I have to agree with that. Looks like something that could easily get you a suspension in regular season.
(Although again, the video is not great. But if I try to make a judgment, that's my call.)

Exactly this. You don't know that you're vulnerable until you get hit and realize you're still vulnerable. That's the problem with concussions. The symptoms may go away, but you may be VERY susceptible to another concussion with light contact...and you'll never know until you take that contact.
It's impossible to blame the medical staff for this one, but with hindsight being 20/20 and all, it's easy to say they should have known to put a non-contact jersey on him.

I think it's pretty clear Sieloff was partially concussed after an earlier hit in practice and was just trying to get back to the bench.
That's how this works, right?

Too bad about MacArthur, total scrub but still one of OTTs best players when he was playing well.
Th team can be mad at Sieloff until he crushes an opposing player, then they will love him again. All good.

Sieloff should not be engaging his teammates that way in a scrimmage. Save that for the preseason games.
Not the worst hit I have ever seen, yet I would be mad as hell if I saw one of our flames players do that to another flames player in practice, scrimmage, drills, or flatout ever! Jumping into a hit in a scrimmage with the players back partially turned? Sure you throw that hit against a rival team, may or may not get a penalty for the hit, definately a fight afterwards though.
I dont have a hate on for Sieloff but what he did was dumb. He launched himself into a teammate. Video shows his skates coming off the ground. Clearly intent. In an NHL game two minute penalty probably, and of course 5 for fighting. Which makes this worse, cause now one wrong turns into two wrongs fighting a teammate.
Not a good way to try and make the team. Personally I would cut him instantly, buy him out etc. He is done in Ottawa now.
Some blame medical staff, some blame MacArthur, no one in camp should be expecting to get hit by a teammate this way at camp. You let up, and you tell the guy I could of sent you in to space.
If this was a textbook clean hit, the perfect body check ever, I would still be saying the same thing. Delibrately thru a massive hit on a teammate in practice! What were you thinking?

Asking aloud if he should have been out there is a lot different than making a medical diagnosis.
It's a serious question to ask what the medical staff knew and why he was out there. I guess we'll find out more in the coming days.

Crappy situation as most have mentioned for everyone. Thing I disagree with is the notion that Sieloff has to play this way to make the team. Agreed he isn't going to make the team pushing the pace up ice like Letang, but that doesn't mean he needs to crush teammates in a training camp scrimmage. Hit guys, sure... but ease up.
Pretty sure Sieloff didn't mean for that to happen, but I'm sure he meant to hit him hard. That's the issue for me. He did not need to go that hard on a teammate in an effort to make the team.
And Neil and Brassard are idiots for going after Sieloff after Ryan already did.

Oh #### this. Sieloff is trying to make an impression. He's not there to tickle macarthur's nuts.

All I can get

Liking the Chiasson pickup.
Reminds me a bit of the Craig Conroy trade. Under-utilized asset of former team who blossoms and plays a bigger role in Calgary.
Even better than the Conroy/Stillman swap from my perspective that it was for a marginal prospect. If Chiasson produces on the Gaudreau/Monahan line that's a flat-out genius steal.
Hope I'm not getting ahead of myself here.

I'm still astonished we got an NHL body, however mediocre, for a player who has no business being near the NHL, now or ever.

Let's see what happens.
If he slots in on the top line (like some speculate) and fits in, that's huge.
Like I said, wishful thinking.
