That's exactly what George Canyon does. I guess it's just too bad that The Weekend, Drake and Blood Sweat and Tears don't live in High River and have an agreement to be the Flames main anthem singer.
Why is it so hard to appreciate that we have a singer of George Canyons' calibre doing the anthems. When Sara and Tegan audition...........
I said we don't need a recording artist.
You passive-aggressively suggest other recording artists for the job?

Give us a normal person without the BS synth. I don't care what his credentials are, Heather was a hell of lot better than this clown
####ing sucks. Clown. Is it really that bad? No it is not.
Seriously, how bad is it? This is starting to remind me of the early Loubardias threads where we wanted him fired from play by play because of the sound of his voice. We had a thread stay top page for months because Flames Draft Watcher wanted Bryn Griffiths fired. Maybe we could pile on Don Cherry because hating the elderly is cool.
He sings the anthem. Well.
I don't even think that you are really a docta.

Unless one is born and raised in Tenessee then doing the "country drawl" thing should be mocked and driven out of popular culture. Heather was average everyday plain-jane Canadian that had a good voice and knew how to use it. It suited.
Canyon is an embarassment.

I may be completely wrong, but isn't it a law that the anthem be sung at public gatherings?
Also cannot stand Canyon. Bring back Heather!
It should be a law that you can't use a synth at public gatherings.
On a more serious note, I don't think the anthems should be sung before all professional sporting events
Maybe only do it for special occasions such as near Remembrance Day, Canada Day (football, baseball before someone mentions there is no hockey (yet) then).

There was another country singer guy who filled in for Canyon a few times last season. I thought he was much better and he didn't try to "countrify" the songs either.

I'm not saying he was the worst ever, or that he didn't have some game, and maybe if he was on a panel with some Iginlas or some Reghers, and that he sometimes had some talkability, and that there are others that could do worse, and he did show flashes of competence, and if he had a little more time to prepare, or if he maybe had a better mic, but he f'n sucked.

Or may be just the anthems music like they did in the WCH and FIVB volleyball tournaments?
I wonder if we can send Canyon somewhere in exchange for a pick or prospect singer. Surely he'd fit in Nashville or Dallas. Maybe the Avs could use him. It would be nice to get Toscano out of LA, but we'd likely have to send a package, like, the backup Zamboni driver and a couple Ice-girls or something. Hindsight being 20/20, if only we'd agreed to Liscano's demands for 8 x 20k. Might have been pricey, but that or synth and twang? No brainer. We could have front loaded her contract, and shipped her off for a 3rd or 4th-round pick in, say, the 2019 anthem draft.
I don't even watch the anthems (I'm not local so I don't get to go to live games). To be completely honest I don't think it should be apart of professional hockey anyways. Play the anthem of the winning team in an international bout, but these days in the NHL so few of the players (in the grand scheme, Canadian teams obviously that is different) play in their home country and many broadcasts don't show the anthems, so who are they doing it for?
This x 1,000,000. The anthem is the lamest thing at a pro sporting event. The crowd is rowdy and energized...and now clam down for some faux patriotism so we can sing the anthem for no particular reason. They should just drop the anthems and get on with the game.

"Calm" (or is it "clam?") is the last word I'd use to describe the fans after a rousing anthem. It's the point where we say "game on!" and get ready for some action. The starting gun, if you will.

Uhhh... Singing the national anthem or listening to it being played in ANY event is not "Faux Patriotism". It's just Patriotism, Slava..
