Yeah, that's why I said to the front door, not out of front door. Conroy alluded to it previously, they don't want a four year deal, it gets players too close to that UFA status, and they start thinking, scheming, gets harder to lock them up.
Fine with a bridge deal, but make it two or three years. Four get him too close to UFA status for comfort.

One problem with a 2 year bridge deal is that CP is going to have to GO THROUGH THIS ALL AGAIN in 2 years..

This statement is tough. They can be effective, but in order for a team to be competitive a good chunk of players have to outperform their contracts.
So if you've got a guy earning $10M in his mid 30s and putting up ~50 points or so you are going to be in trouble. You can survive if you can surround that player with young guys on ELCs that are vastly out-performing their contracts but thats a gamble.

I think it will be interesting to see how some of the elite players (Crosby for example) continue to play as they reach their early 30s. I think every year that passes the next generation of athletes gets better and better, which includes maintaining their level of play, or close to it for a longer period time.
I think people look at averages and go, players fall off at the 30 year mark, which is true for the majority. I'm not so sure it is true for the elite or will be true for the elite moving forward.

Issue with a 4yr contract is the cap-hit he'll be due once that contract ends. If he turns out to be a perennial top 10 scorer in this league, it's likely he'll command a $10M+ AAV if we're looking to re-sign him 4 years from now.
I'd sooner give him the $8M AAV he's after today, in order to get an 8yr term, than sign him to a 4yr deal, even if it was for a meager $6M AAV.
I still think he signs a 7 or 8 year deal for around $7M AAV.

That's fine by me. You'll have a huge sample to base the contract off of, it lines up with the expirations on both Frolik+Brouwer so you'll have the room to sign him, and you're paying him through prime years 27-34, nothing extending into "done" years (35,36,37,38 etc)

We can only go by what has been speculated in the media. By all reports, they aren't close.
