Gretzky was historically not great at penalty shots. But he was historically great at rising to the occasion - unloading a top shelf slapper when a PO game was on the line (considering he wasn't the hardest shooter or anything). I think there would've been a good chance he would have done it again.

That's why the decision was so horrible. Did you see the 5 who went ahead of him? Especially given the fact Sakic and Kariya were injured.
"The ice was heavy."

Seriously, against Hasek in his prime, the Canadians weren't going to win that game once it got to a shootout. Pinning our hopes on a Gretzky one year from retirement wouldn't have changed anything.

He still should've shot.

Agreed, he actually nailed it.......very surprised. Hey, I fully enjoy the emotional non reserved comments from the likes of Kessell, super entertaining as a fan, the drama or subplot created is gold.

But from a pure, what's the proper perspective / reaction from a hockey USA or an American hoping for better results in the future, Torts nailed the response.

Aw man, you've been missing out. It's one of my all-time favourites. I love those Songify videos.

Don't forget, he may have been one year from retirement, but even in his late 30's the trap era Gretzky was one of the NHLs highest scorers. He could have scored on Hasek and changed everything.
