The above quote is from the Smid thread, but it got me thinking -- if Gaudreau isn't signed by opening day (or whatever the 23 man roster cutoff is), the Flames have no chance of being close to the ceiling, right? Wouldn't that mean that any cap benefit from Smid's placement on LTIR would evaporate at that time?
Will cap management considerations for year 1 of what will presumably be a multi-year deal add any more impetus to get a deal signed sooner than later?
