if you were stranded on a desert island and had a record player that could work indefinitely, what 3 records would you want to have with you for the rest of your days there?

I would ask:
"Given the choice, would you rather make more money, or have a better chance of winning the Stanley Cup?"

Assuming they answer winning the Stanley Cup, I would follow up with:
"Why haven't 22 of the best players gotten together, agreed to play on the same team, and agreed to all just earn $3M per year?"

Unfortunately, its not that easy in this day and age. The players are in immense pressure from their peers to get the best deals... it hurts their entire stance.

Its an unfair expectation to hold players to and why it never happens. You see the odd player near the end of their career, or a franchise player leave a bit of room in some cases and not go full on the open market.

But if you asked that question to a player they would see you as a fan that hasn't properly investigated their side of the story, and the entire fight that players vs. owners have had since inception of the league. The players have their rights and in most cases they try to find that balance between finding a club they believe they can win on while getting paid a close approximation of FMV as to allow the league's salary cap structure and player vs. owner to split to function properly.

Its hard for he average fan like us to fully connect with... if we were all NHL talents it would be easy for us to say that we would be happy making multi-millions with the ability to leave more on the table and try to win... but that opinion also wouldn't be speaking from the experience of how it works in their version of reality.

Technically would this not be illegal under the definition of collusion? In a backwards sort of way?

Do you really care about playoffs or would you prefer a longer summer?

Which city is the most fun for road trips and why?

How hard is it manage family life considering you have to be on the road so much?

How much impact does a coach have for a team?

I met Trevor Linden back in 2010 and I asked him which two teams had offered him a contract before he retired - when he decided to retire he publicly stated that two teams had offered him a contract but he didn't say who. He told me it was San Jose and Calgary.

It would be interesting to know more about the UFA process.

Would you rather make 10 million dollars a year and play on loser teams, or make 5 million and win multiple cups?

I try not to say anything at risk of embarrassing myself. lol.

But am sure they get bored with the cliche questions.

I guess my question to a pro hockey player would be "what questions do you get sick of answering from fans, and what kind of questions do you wish they would ask?"

You guys should volunteer for the Charity Golf day. Its a blast and you get to spend some time with most of the team. If you go as a scorer you are six hours with a player and they get pretty relaxed. I spent a great day with Max Reinhart a few years ago. A really nice young man. On Tuesday I met Bouma (and got my jersey signed at last!), Hathaway, Elliot, Tkachuk, Glencross, Morrison, Giordano, Gelinas and I can't remember who else. Lots of media people - Loubardias, Maher, Simmer. I was a hole in one spotter so a lot of players came past. Mind you I am never star struck and can chatter away to pretty much anyone. They seem to like that!! I got lots of hugs too as it was so cold. Probably only for me that, as I am female!! Haha!
