Default Arena Atmosphere

I have a feeling this has already been posted somewhere, so if it IS a fata, mod/admin feel free to close.

After being at the Sens/Flames game, I really learned to appreciate the atmosphere that is in the dome every game. When pretty much starts a Go Flames Go chant everyone goes along. Also, the entire dome is almost ALL red at a game...

Sens... I hear a group of people doing the go sens go chat... but almost NO ONE caught on... I could hear at one point go Flames Go drowning it out... The arena doesn't even fill... there were whole half of sections being empty... and its not all red either (sens is red... as we all know)

Any other arenas in the NHL (or any sport for that matter) just completely throws u off with the atmosphere u're accustomed to?

I dunno...Ive been to hundreds of Flames games and although you are right about the Jerseys and the sea of red per se, I dont buy the atmosphere being better than most. I think the upper bowl might be louder, but the suits sure love to sit on their hands while discussing politics.

Toronto has a good atmosphere...Boston and NYC are great...Detroit is fantastic....havent been to a Wild game but that crowd seems into it. Dallas seems good....lots of teams have active fans...some more so than the Falames.

San Jose game was pretty bad, but in the past few years, the Saddledome has generally been rocking.

Rexall has always been a disapointment to me, given how much Edmonton fans like to brag about how great they are. But then, I've never been there for a playoff game. Either way, I've always said that 16,839 Flames fans in Rexall would sound just as loud. Just as 19,289 Oiler fans in the Saddledome would be similar. For the most part, atmosphere is about the building more than it is the fans. Tampa was electric, but that had a lot to do with the fact it was game 7.

Medicine Hat is one of the best places to go if you want atmopshere at a hockey game. Lethbridge not so much.

I hate the jackasses in the Sport Chek section these days. Can't we find a happy medium between businesses that hold seats and send people (not fans) to the game as a perk, and those who are drunk off their ass and getting bounced from the game before the first intermission up in the 300s?

Sigh.

Well there is the 200 section. I find that one is not to bad. A mix of people in suits and people who cheer. But I agree, the 300's are very rowdy, good if you are in the mood to do that as well, and the lower bowl is very quiet and boring.

LA Kings fans are very loud and into the games - I haven't been to the dome in over a decade so I can't really compare the two, but I've been impressed by Kings fans. Now Duck fans, are well, Duck fans

OK so just to clearify, you think TO has louder fans in the lower bowl than Calgary? Do you watch HNIC? The 'suits' in TO are 10 times worse than Calgary.

I can't stand how some people refer to the lower bowl as quiet, or even worse, 'suits'...it just makes you sound completely jealous...so don't do it.

watch this video and tell me the lower bowl doesn't cheer and doesn't wear red. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlXMdQ2Dcac

wow a wee bit angry are we? Atmosphere doesnt have to mean being louder...Toronto fans definately get into the game though. Yes I watch HNIC....and yep the fans make noise...dependant on the team in town. Thats pretty typical to a Flames game IMHO. Ive been to the ACC about 30 times Id guess and numerous Flames games. Ive also been to many other arenas...forgetting to mention Montreal my first go around. A Toronto/Habs or Toronto/Bruins game is just as loud as a Flames/Oiler or Flames/Canucks game. The Wild have put every crowd to sleep in the past...maybe not this year though.
Quite frankly Calgary aint #1 in crowd support. Its ok...but not the best.
Oh and while Im on this...get rid of the moron who announces goals and players...he sounds like a poor mans version of Michael Buffer at a boxing match. Hes embarrassing.

BTW based on where my ex seasons tiks were at the Dome....3rd row by the Visitors penalty box...I might have been what you consider a "suit". No jealousy here.

While I see where you were going with this one I'm not sure that using video from when the Flames eliminated the Red Wings in 2004 is the best example of how the lower bowl typically behaves. It's the second round of the playoffs, of course everyone is going to cheer moving on to the third round.

What creates Atmosphere if not fan noise and team jerseys?

And about beezly...say what you want about the guy, but he's probably the biggest flames fan in Calgary, he's not acting out any of those announcements, he's actually that excited...which makes it really cool lol. If you want annoying try the Detroit Red Wings PA guy, I think he is on oxygen while making announcments.

I'm used to Centre200 in Sydney NS. Libraries are louder than that place, so pretty much every building has better atmosphere than what I'm used to.

Beezly must really hate Lundmark then - everytime I head him say that kid's name, he says it like he's at a funeral.

like I said...pick the two teams that are playing then compare...dont haul out a 2nd or 3rd round playoff match and try that as comparison...id bet my left nut that Toronto would be as crazy as Calgary in the 2nd round and on. Oh and just in case you think Im a Laff fan...forget it. Until youve got out of cowtown and seen at least 6 rinks personally dont make judgements based on TV or the few games youve personally seen.

Beezly eh...what a moronic name for a moronic announcer.
The guy is an embarrassment to Calgary....people outisde of Calgary always larf their arses off at the way he annunciates.

Atmosphere was great at MLG the few times I had a chance to go.

I would have loved to see a game in the Corral.

Maybe that's why they don't live in Calgary...cause I can't think of any other reasons.

it was AWESOME. So close to the action...standing room around the top...high boards made for great hits. But in the end far too small...no way a team moving could get away with that nowadays for even a part of a year.

How much were tickets for Flames games in the Corral? How hard were they to get your hands on?

I sat in the 300s and they were 75 each... wasn't too bad
