Yup, which is pretty much what we have come to expect from Backlund. Extremely dependable defensively, but not a whole lot to offer offensively.

Mikael Backlund is about as solid a third line Center as you can get. Great player and we are lucky to have him.

The way they took down the Russians reminded me a lot of Canada circa-2014.

Nice to see international hockey back. I've had some criticisms of the tournament before but it is growing on me.

I am actually starting to like the idea of Team Europe as it reminds me of the West Indies cricket team. There are a bunch of countries that on their own could not compete but are a force when combined. Hopefully this tournament gives a European team some traction. It would have to be a voluntary combination of the federations though and not something forced by the NHL.

Gaudreau got the same number of points as them and...whats this? No minus on Finland's goal?

Lets just conveniently ignore that.

It's an NHL tournament. It's whatever they want. Doesn't Quebec have a team? or did that idea die?

I wish there was a West Indies soccer team instead of all these little countries.

Are you surprised that the media found a way to make those two players the headline? Its pure clickbait.

McDavid and Matthews weren't out for the Finland goal. The RNH line was.

Interesting to see Johnny with only 14:07 TOI. Only Saad played less.

And almost zero 4v4 time despite his line should've been the next to go after the coincidental minors.

The scary thing is that he could have very easily had 2-3 more goals. Hit a post and had 2-3 point blank chances.

He's so amazing at anticipating where the puck is going to end up.

The difference in ice time between the top and bottom forward was less than 2 minutes, so it's not like there's some big discrepancy. Looks like 4 pretty evenly rolled lines, adjusted by special teams.

i may be getting a free ticket for tonight's NA game here in TO.

Question: Bad to wear my Monahan flames shirt considering he was supposed to be on the team? I don't have anything with Gaudreau on it and i refuse to purchase anything until he is signed long term.

Good. The fresher he is for the season, the better.

Czech Republic and Team Europe tied at zero after one. Neither team looks dangerous but Nakladal is getting PP minutes.
