It's possible he used the taser at first instead of the gun because you know they were in a mall with bystanders around.
The cop likely put his life on the line so he didn't have to shoot an innocent bystander. He likely had no choice in the end but to use fatal force. Don't think anyone has argued against that.

A shot to the knee/foot you know is something you could probably justify and should render the assailant unable to cause anyone much harm. Just don't shoot in lethal places, pretty simple.
That's a little drastic. Maim the guy for life? Grazing the shoulder is a little more appropriate, I think. Then it's just a band aid. Pretty simple.

The second involved an escaped psychiatric patient wandering around the mall holding a kitchen knife and acting erratically. The police pointed a gun at him and when he refused to release the knife they opened fire. The man was killed... and three innocent bystanders were hit by bullets.
That's a nasty weapon... I'm not surprised his injuries were serious if he was struck by it.
I'm legitimately not sure what the most amazing part of this video is. Is it the futuristic metal soundtrack? The fat guy's full-black militaristic outfit? The fact that they cut through a gelatinous human bust? Or the highly detailed post-apocalyptic backdrop? I'm going with the backdrop. Either way, that looks like quite the zombie apocalypse weapon.
As for the actual story, the success rate on tasers seems fairly low, it's surprising they haven't developed a more reliable version. Seems like half the time, they can't make a circuit. If a suspect has a weapon and makes an aggressive move toward an officer the better policy is probably to shoot him.

We need to get that backdrop for all future Oilers press conferences. Its a perfect depiction of Edmonton.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I have to think that if some ####### was running and swinging at me with a machete, I'd be shooting him too if I was armed with a gun and previous attempts to stop him failed. I also wouldn't be too worried about how or where I hit him.

The fact that it was made? What a weird thing.
There's a shameful time in my life that I would have thought this kind of thing was cool, in the same way I thought butterfly knives and throwing stars were cool. Luckily I turned 11 and moved on.
There are apparently adults out there who not only make these weapons, but dress up in silly fake uniforms and record themselves demonstrating their flesh-hacking proficiency. That's kind of scary.

I swear, every time I see a video with some weird ninja sword or jungle machete etc. it's the same type of dude doing the video. It's like Star Wars kid grew up and found a niche market doing promo ads for internet weapons dealers.

It's ballistic gel. It's designed to simulated the density and viscosity of human tissue to test and demonstrate the effect of weapons on the human body.
So the demonstration of the kopis essentially slicing the dummy in half is a reasonable approximation of its effect on a person.
