Or that 2-headed dude that would sound out the words based on syllables.

Who here didn't do that with cuss words and thing it was funny when you were a kid?

Oscar is still my favorite.

All these old clips are amazing. I would encourage all of you that loved the show in the past to try and watch now. Its simply the Elmo and Abby variety show. Very few of the other characters are ever featured.

The new season has just started on PBS and it seems that the other characters are making a more regular appearances. That said I agree that Elmo gets his fair share of screen time. When did he become the main monster?

I think once "Tickle-Me-Elmo" made him so marketable. I imagine they make most of their money from merchandising that one character.

Oh man, I totally forgot about the typewriter guy. What a blast from the past.

All the millennials who grew up with Elmo are probably thinking; "What's a typewriter?". Although I expect them to make a hipster turnaround soon like vinyl did.

Elmo was least favorite. I found him annoying even as a kid. Not sure who my favorite was though.

I'm pretty sure I considered Bert and Ernie my real friends when I was a kid.

As the parent of a three year old I have the sad feeling we may be seeing the demise of Sesame Street. We can thank Netflix for this.

My 3 year old, having grown up on the readily accessible Netflix, has a greater affection for Paw Patrol and the other "empty filler" cartoons.

In a couple generations, kids won't even know what Sesame Street is, and there goes their profitable merchandising and licensing deals.

Ernie FTW by the way.
